This avocado mango smoothie is loaded with avocado, shredded coconut, frozen mango, medjool dates and lime juice. It’s thick, creamy and the perfect refreshing smoothie for summer!

It’s officially smoothie season!! When the weather is cold I don’t typically crave smoothies, but once the temps rise above 70, it’s smoothie time. Every day, all day. Which is why I’ve been sharing a ton of smoothie recipes lately!

Two glasses with avocado mango smoothie garnished with coconut and lime slices.

They’re so easy and perfect for when you’re in a rush. You can literally just toss everything into the blender, blend for a minute, pour into a glass and your meal is ready.

I already have a basic mango smoothie with frozen mango here on the site, but today I’m sharing a version with fun add-ins like coconut, lime and avocado!

Lime, water, coconut, frozen mango, medjool dates, vanilla and avocado measured out on a table.

Ingredients Needed:

Here’s everything you need for this tasty smoothie!

  • cold water – instead of milk we’re using cold water for the liquid in the recipe. Of course, you’re welcome to use milk if you prefer!
  • unsweetened shredded coconut – a great source of fiber and I love the texture it adds to the smoothie as well.
  • avocado  make sure your avocado is pitted and you’re only using the flesh that you scooped out. I love using avocado in my smoothies because it adds healthy fat and makes them thicker and creamier. You can use a fresh or frozen avocado. Either works!
  • mango – nothing compares to the flavor of fresh mango, but I like using frozen in this recipe because it gives the smoothie the perfect texture.
  • medjool datesdates are an amazing natural sweetener. Using them instead of sugar will give your smoothie a delicious, natural sweetness. Just make sure to remove the pit before adding them to your blender! And feel free to skip the dates to lower the sugar content.
  • fresh lime juice – to boost the citrus flavor.
  • vanilla – a great flavor enhancer.

Adding Avocado to Smoothies

Avocado is such a great addition to smoothies. It makes smoothies extra creamy and smooth (without needing any dairy) and makes them more nutrient-dense and filling as well. The healthy fat in avocado is also perfect for helping with absorption of fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A.

And because of its mild flavor, you usually can’t even taste avocado in smoothies. Especially if they’re blended with a flavorful fruit like mango.

tip!
Have extra avocados on hand that are perfectly ripe? Freeze them! Frozen avocados work great for smoothies. You can even find frozen avocado at stores now.

This smoothie actually reminds me of my avocado and lime tart, but in liquid form. It’s creamy, refreshing and perfectly blends mango, avocado and coconut together with a hint of lime!

Notes

Protein powder – I didn’t add protein powder to this smoothie, but if you need the extra boost of protein feel free to add some!
Spinach – For some added nutrients and pop of color spinach would make a great addition to this smoothie. Just add a handful of baby spinach.
Medjool dates – Feel free to skip the dates if you want to reduce the sugar content or add more if you want the smoothie to be sweeter.

  1. I never would think to put avocado in a smoothie but that looks fantastic! I’m headed to the store later and totally plan to pick some up! Also, thanks for the info on how to store smoothies in the fridge. My husband always wants to try it but I always find that they get kind of funky, I’ll give your tips a try to see how it works out!

  2. This looks fantastic! I don’t think I could have it as a meal though because I usually like more proteins in my meal so that it lasts longer. But it still looks great!

  3. yummm. i make a mango spinach smoothie with chia. i love your polka dot towel 😉

  4. This sounds so refreshing and yummy! I love adding avocado to my smoothies because it really makes it so thick and creamy!

  5. I make a large smoothie each morning and divide it up throughout the day. I drink 10 oz in the morning and then 1 6 oz in the mid afternoon and then 1 6 oz in the early evening. Keeps my energy levels from dropping. Love avocado and mango in smoothies and ground ginger. Yum.

  6. Interesting combo! I’ve never been a huge fan of mangoes (the first time I had it, I also had the flu, and got sick) but I LOVE avocados, so maybe I’ll give this a try!

  7. This smoothie looks delicious! Using coconut water definitely sounds easier. Thanks for the tip!

  8. Whenever I make smoothies, I make just enough so that I know I’ll finish it. I love having avocados in my smoothies! It’s so yummy and filling!

  9. I can totally relate to it being smoothie season! The past couple of weeks I have been whipping up a banana/cacao/pb/coconut milk smoothie to bring to work with me for my afternoon treat. But now? It looks like tomorrow I will be whipping up a creamy avocado mango smoothie, because I have everything I need and it looks irresistible! Thank you Brittany! I continue to appreciate your creative expertise in the kitchen!

  10. Hi! I’m just wondering what kind of blender you use. I’ve been making smoothies every morning but my blender is starting to die (it’s very old) and I’m definitely shopping for a new one. Any tips?

    1. Hi Ayme. I have a Vitamix and a Blendtec. I like both but I think my top choice is the Vitamix. It works so well for making smoothies and you can also make juices, nut butter, ice cream, soup, dips, etc.

  11. thank you for the smoothie advice. i never thought that i could make a smoothie in advance but never thought for a minute that they could be frozen. Great advice that i will be following.

  12. I love your advice on freezing smoothies – I love when my smoothies are thick almost closer to a parfait consistency and obviously overnight in the fridge the next day they are never as good! Looking forward to trying this delicious looking smoothie! Pinned!

  13. This is great! I will have to try making my smoothies ahead of time…sometimes I want to make them but run out of time in the mornings. Making ahead would definitely help 🙂

  14. Can’t wait to try this out! I’ve found so few filling smoothie recipes since going Paleo and the winners so far have all been ones with avocado.

  15. I would definitely try this smoothie recipes. It’s good to know other ways of making smoothie out from avocados.

  16. I just found your blog from bloglovin. I’m just starting to check it out, but i want to say I already love it! It’s nice to get such detailed instructions. I’m a novice at cooking and to read your above directions – Place water and shredded coconut into your blender and blend until the water becomes cloudy — about 10-30 seconds. Add all remaining ingredients into blender and blend until smooth. That helps me to know how it might look or should, so I know I’m not messing it up. Now I’m on to check out more and start trying your recipes and workouts. Kudos!

I was skeptical due to the water instead of nut milk, but this was so good. I added half a banana, superfood powder and cashew butter to up the protein. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe!
