Glow from the inside out with this refreshing green detox smoothie packed with hydrating fruit and veggies (including a whole heart of romaine!). Vegan and gluten-free.
After yesterday’s poll on Facebook, it’s clear that you are craving smoothies just as much as I am these days.
Rightfully so, they’re perfect for cooling down your body during the spring and summer months and they’re a great way to boost your nutrition as well.
I’m all about healing the body from the inside out with food and know that a diet packed with fresh vegetables and fruits can help in the beauty department too — especially when it comes to improving your skin, hair and nails.
It’s also important not to get stuck in a rut eating the same foods day after day. Make sure you include a variety of different foods to supply your body with all the nutrients it needs. The more colorful the fruits and veggies, the better! Skittles may not be a healthy snack option, but they’re on to something with the whole “taste the rainbow” thing. 🙂
My secret weapon for getting in vitamin-packed fruits and veggies is by having at least one salad or smoothie each day — most of time I have one of each.
Smoothies in particular are really helpful when you’re trying to increase your consumption of leafy greens because you can add a a variety of green leafy vegetables into one smoothie — way more than you’d likely eat in a salad. The smoothie recipe I’m sharing today has a whole romaine heart and spinach!
Why smoothies and not juice? I have a juicer and drink fresh juice every now and then but I prefer smoothies because you still get all the fiber. The fiber makes the smoothie more filling and also helps control your blood sugar.
I’m calling today’s green smoothie the Hello Beautiful! Green Detox Smoothie because it’s packed with nutrient-filled fruits and vegetables to help hydrate your skin, strength your nails and make your hair strong and healthy. Hydration is arguably the most important factor for achieving a beautiful, healthy glow so I used water for the base and boosted the hydration factor by adding a full romaine heart. The healthy fat from the chia seeds is there to help your body absorb all the nutrients.

Having so much lettuce and 1/4-1/2 lemons, oranges, chia and flax seeds, a banana and yogurt from today’s breakfast and lunches ( for the family) I decided to throw the recipe above together along with some cranberries ( it’s 4 days away from winter in the Northern hemisphere- these items are abundant in my area) this smoothie was the most delicious and pick me up after yoga practice. Didn’t think I could use lettuce. This recipe proves me wrong.
I’m so glad you tried and enjoyed this recipe, Valerie! I really appreciate you coming back to leave a comment and star rating. It’s super helpful to other readers. 🙂
Hello Brittany!
This Green Detox Smoothie has got lots of good healthy cleansing ingredients. I love mint, nothing better than hot water and few mint leaves for a cup of tea!
I haven’t gotten into the smoothie craving…just yet, but I have been on a salad tear for lunch with lots of fresh veggies and hard boiled eggs. Easy, healthy, and ready in minutes, salads are my go to now in between clients. Plus, it’s too hot to turn the stove on down here in Texas. 😉
I read this at the perfect time! I was ready for lunch, rolling through my feed, when I came across your post! I decided right then and there to make this smoothie since I had most of the ingredients. I made it with some modifications based on what I had (4 frozen strawberries instead of 1/2 an apple, 1 stalk celery instead of spinach) but it is absolutely delicious! Thank you!

Looks great!
Awesome! My question is, my girlfriend recently bought me a juicer. Dumb question but, will I be able to make a smoothie out of the juicer? Thanks!
Hi Paul! All the ingredients will be fine in your juicer EXCEPT the banana and the chia seeds. 🙂
This sounds amazing, I will have to check it out!

Yes, like one of romaine hearts that comes in this sort of package (http://www.thegrocerygirls.com/lettuce-romaine-hearts-organic.html). 🙂
This looks good!! I’ve never tried romaine in a smoothie….do you literally mean like a whole thing of romaine!?!?!
What a beautiful smoothie! The colour is incredible…just what I needed to “detox” my body for summer 🙂
I’m all about salads too. As long as your have your protein prepped ahead of time, you’re good to go!
