A super simple recipe for an anti-inflammatory turmeric tahini dressing that’s the perfect topping for your favorite salad, but also lovely as a sauce or dip!

My favorite homemade dressing of all time is my zesty tahini dressing, but this turmeric tahini dressing is slowly creeping up as a close second.

A turmeric tahini dressing in a glass mason jar with a metal spoon.

It all started when Cava released their 2018 winter menu with a spicy turmeric tahini dressing. It wasn’t long after that I found a packaged version of this very dressing at our local Whole Foods. I love all the Cava products and this dressing is no different. I have a bottle in my fridge as I type this and it’s likely sitting right next to my homemade version.

If you’ve been reading EBF for any amount of time you’ll know that one of my favorite things to do is to come up with recreation recipes, whether it’s making a healthy version of a childhood fav (like this lightened-up sweet potato casserole) or testing out copycat recipes of products that I buy regularly or restaurant meals I’ve enjoyed. Some of my best copycat recipes include these coconut chocolate chip Larabars, this Mayan harvest bake and these paleo chicken tenders. PS — The tenders are SO delicious and also Whole30 approved. Just wanted to mention that because I know a lot of you are doing the Whole30 this month!
A spoonful of turmeric tahini dressing over a mason jar of the dressing.

This golden turmeric tahini dressing is somewhat of a copycat recipe because I was definitely inspired by Cava’s dressing and looked at their ingredient list for ideas of where to start. Their dressing calls for harissa for spice. While I love harissa, it’s not something I keep on hand all the time, so I opted to use cayenne pepper instead.

I also added nutritional yeast for extra depth and a hint of nutty, cheesy flavor. I love nutritional yeast in tahini dressings and highly recommend scooping some up if you plan to make this dressing. If you have trouble finding it you can make the dressing without it; just add an additional Tablespoon of tahini in its place. You can also try making homemade tahini for this dressing!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • ½ Tablespoon maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 pinch – 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients into a small bowl and whisk together until smooth. Or add all the ingredients into a mason jar and shake to combine until smooth. Or add the ingredients into a blender and process until smooth.
  • If the dressing seems too thick you can add a little more water, 1 Tablespoon at a time.

Notes

  • A little goes a long way with the cayenne, so add a little, taste the dressing and add more if needed. If you don’t like spicy foods you can simply leave it out.
  • Add extra flavor to the dressing with these add-ins: 1 clove minced garlic or 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
