This creamy blueberry tahini dressing is made with tahini, fresh blueberries, lemon juice and maple syrup. It’s dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free and comes together in just 5 minutes!

I’m all about homemade salad dressings! They tend to be less expensive to make and generally healthier. Plus, they’re pretty quick and easy to whip up.

One of my favorite ingredients to use in salad dressings is, you guessed it… tahini! It has a mild, nutty flavor that works in a wide variety of recipes. I already have a citrus tahini dressing on the blog, but today I’m sharing a delicious, creamy blueberry tahini dressing. The nuttiness of the tahini pairs perfectly with the natural sweetness of the fresh blueberries. It’s seriously SO good!

Why You’ll Love This Dressing

  • It has a vibrant hue, rich and creamy texture and just the right amount of sweetness!
  • Blueberries are a superfood! They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and fiber.
  • It’s super easy to whip up and only requires 6 simple ingredients.

Health Benefits of Blueberries

Blueberries are known as a superfood, a food that is rich in nutrients that are beneficial to your health (ie vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and fiber). Here’s why!

  • fiber – a 1 cup serving of blueberries contains 3.6 grams of fiber. Fiber is great for gut health, healthy digestion and reduces the risk of chronic disease.
  • vitamins – blueberries contain vitamins C, E, K and B6, which are essential for helping to build a healthy immune system and nervous system, as well as, bone health and proper function of many organs such as the eyes, skin and brain.
  • manganese – an essential mineral needed for normal amino acid, protein, lipid, and carbohydrate metabolism.
  • antioxidants – these plant compounds not only give blueberries their gorgeous color but also may reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure and help prevent cancer and diabetes. (source)

Ingredients Needed

  • tahini – one of the star ingredients! Tahini is ground sesame seeds… yep, that’s it! The consistency is similar to other nut and seed butter and it has a mild, nutty flavor that is delicious in a variety of recipes. It’s packed with protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals and is one of my favorite ingredients! You’ll find tahini near the other nut and seed butter in the grocery store. You can also make homemade tahini!
  • fresh blueberries – the other star of the show! Gives this dressing a boost of antioxidants and a bright purple color. Plus, it adds a bit of natural sweetness.
  • lemon juice – you need a good amount of lemon juice for this dressing. I recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice as opposed to the lemon juice you can buy at the store!
  • olive oil – try to use a high-quality olive oil here. Trust me, it will take this dressing to the next level.
  • maple syrup – a hint of natural sweetness to balance the flavors.
  • sea salt – just a pinch to bring all of the flavors together.

How to Serve

I am obsessed with all things tahini so could literally eat this dressing by the spoonful, but it goes well with so many different salads! Here are some ideas:

What to do With Leftover Tahini

If you don’t have a jar of tahini in your pantry, I highly recommend picking one up and keeping it stocked in your pantry at all times! It’s such a versatile ingredient and there are so many ways to use tahini, so don’t worry it won’t go to waste. Here are some of my favorite uses for tahini:

How to Store

I recommend storing leftovers in an airtight container for up to one week in the refrigerator. I use these 8 oz mason jars and these plastic lids for storing so I can easily shake to re-mix the ingredients before serving.

    1. Hi Gennifer. You could try subbing the olive oil for water for an oil-free dressing. Let me know if you try it!

    1. Hi Gigi – that should work! I’d just recommend defrosting the blueberries before for sure.
