This creamy 4-ingredient pineapple smoothie combines coconut milk with yogurt, frozen pineapple and banana. One sip and you’ll feel like you’re on a tropical vacation.

I’ve been on a smoothie kick recently and one of my new go-to’s is this easy pineapple smoothie!
It combines frozen pineapple and banana with coconut milk for a super creamy, tropical smoothie that makes me feel like I’m sitting on a beach drinking a piña colada. It’s so refreshing and the perfect drink for hot summer days.
Why You Gotta Try This One
This smoothie tastes like the kind of thing you’d get poolside in a fancy glass with a tiny umbrella—except you made it in five minutes in your kitchen, wearing socks, with a toddler yelling in the background. That’s the magic of this one. It feels like an escape, but it fits into real life.
Here’s why I keep making this smoothie on repeat:
- It scratches the itch between “snack” and “treat”.
- It’s sweet without being syrupy.
- It works with almost anything I throw in.
- It reminds me to keep frozen pineapple in my freezer, always.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- frozen pineapple – frozen pineapple is the star of the show for this smoothie.
- frozen banana – the banana adds a bit more natural sweetness and makes the smoothie thick and creamy.
- coconut milk – coconut milk adds creaminess and tropical flavor to this smoothie. I used light canned coconut milk. If you don’t have coconut milk on hand you can also use coconut water or another dairy-free milk of choice like almond milk or oat milk. You could also use juice for the liquid base of this smoothie like pineapple juice or orange juice, if desired.
- yogurt – this adds more creaminess and some protein. I like to use coconut yogurt or vanilla Greek yogurt, but feel free to use your favorite yogurt of choice.
- honey or maple syrup – this is optional, but can be added if you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
Variations & Mix-Ins
This smoothie is delicious as is, but here are a few fun ways to switch it up:
- Berry blend: Toss in frozen berries for a sweet and tart combo.
- Green pineapple: Add a handful of spinach or kale for extra nutrients.
- Protein piña colada: Blend in vanilla protein powder and shredded coconut.
- Tropical mix: Try frozen mango or papaya for more tropical flavor.
- Ginger twist: Add fresh ginger for a little zing.
How to Make
Just place all of your ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
Taste and adjust the consistency as desired, adding more liquid for a thinner smoothie or some ice for a thicker smoothie.
Pour your smoothie into a glass and enjoy!
Brittany’s Tips
This smoothie is super easy to make, but here are a few simple tips to help you get the best texture and flavor every time:
- Use frozen fruit: Frozen pineapple and banana give the smoothie its thick, creamy texture without needing ice.
- Go full-fat: If you want a richer flavor, use full-fat canned coconut milk instead of the carton variety.
- Adjust thickness: If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more liquid. Too thin? Toss in a few more frozen pineapple chunks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can totally use fresh pineapple for this smoothie but I actually prefer frozen because it gives the smoothie a thick and creamy texture.
Pineapple tastes really good blended with other tropical fruits like banana, mango and passionfruit.
It’s perfectly safe to blend pineapple with milk or eat the two foods together. That said, the enzyme bromelain found in pineapple can make milk curdle.

Hi
I made this pineapple drink with fresh pineapple and full cream milk.
it was not overly sweet as i hoped.
I added a little honey and this made all the difference.
however, after a couple of hours, I had another glass, but it was bitter in taste.
any ideas?
the core was removed from the pineapple.
Both pineapple and milk were chilled before blending.
Hi Sami – Thanks for sharing your experience! The bitterness you noticed after a few hours could be due to a couple of factors. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which can sometimes react with dairy and cause a bitter or slightly off taste over time. Since both your pineapple and milk were chilled before blending, it’s less likely that heat caused any breakdown, but the natural enzymes in pineapple may have continued to interact with the milk as it sat.
One way to prevent this is to consume the drink fresh or try adding a splash of citrus juice (like lemon or lime) to help stabilize the mixture. Also, ensuring your pineapple is fully ripe can help minimize any potential bitterness.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you try it again with any adjustments. 😊
