Combine frozen blueberries with peanut butter and banana for a protein-packed peanut butter and jelly smoothie that tastes just like your favorite PB&J sandwich from childhood!

Do you skip breakfast? I’m only asking because I know someone who used to skip breakfast regularly (cough cough… Isaac). But then I introduced him to protein smoothies and things changed. Now he asks for me to make him a smoothie on the regular and I LOVE making them for him. Not only because it’s something sweet I can easily do, but I also like knowing that he’s getting some fuel for the day before heading into work. His job is pretty physical and he often doesn’t break to eat until the afternoon so having a smoothie in the morning is key.

Isaac is obsessed with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches so I knew he’d love a smoothie with a similar flavor profile. Enter the peanut butter and jelly smoothie with only five simple ingredients — frozen blueberries, peanut butter, a frozen banana, protein powder and almond milk.

Because this smoothie is meant to be a meal replacement I make sure it has a good balance of macronutrients (carbs, protein and fat). You’ve got the carbs from the fruit,  healthy fat from the peanut butter and protein from the protein powder.

Frozen Banana = Perfect Smoothie Texture

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with banana slices are delish so it makes perfect sense to have a frozen banana in this smoothie. Plus, the banana gives it some additional sweetness and a creamy texture. I’m totally on-board with the frozen cauliflower, low-sugar smoothies but I still think frozen bananas give smoothies the BEST texture. Hands down!

The frozen berries and peanut butter combo is so tasty and the color of this smoothie is absolutely gorgeous. It’s basically a liquid peanut butter and jelly sandwich, sans the bread! I hope you like it as much as we do.

  1. Yum!!! Very good, but I’ll add some extra peanut butter next time. Needed a some more to really get the pb&j taste.

As a child, I remember making Pb&j sandwiches with my family and packing for lunches at school! This smoothie took me back to those days. I love this combination of the blueberries and peanut butter combined with the sweetness of the banana. Can’t wait to keep making this smoothie again and again!

    1. Ah yay!! So glad you loved it, Taylor! Thanks for making it and for the review. I so appreciate it!

    1. I’m so glad this smoothie was a hit, Joy! Thanks for trying it and coming back to leave a review. I so appreciate it!!

Takes me back to my childhood. Who am I kidding you can always have a P&J. This smoothie takes it to another level. So delicious and tastes just like one. Thank you

    1. Yay!! So glad you enjoyed this smoothie, Teresa!! Thanks for trying it and for the review. I so appreciate it!

My vanilla protein powder masked a lot of the peanut butter taste so I added a little bit of pb2 at the end and it was great.

    BLESSINGS ✌?

  6. This sounds amazing but I’m super lazy in the mornings, would this be okay to prepare the night before or would it seperate by morning?

  7. Pb and J is my LOVE language! I love that you have made it into smoothie form. Totally need this weekend!

  8. I love making strawberry peanut butter & banana quesadillas! These pb & J smoothies look so good though!

  9. Hahaha I can’t imagine you delivering pizza 😉 That’s funny!!

    That smoothie sounds awesome!!!

    1. I know! I was working inside making pizzas, but then I saw how much money the delivery people made and decided to that. Me and two of my college roommates (also girls) did it. 🙂

  10. Oooh, this smoothie reminds me of my favorite SweetFrog concoction: PB froyo, original tart froyo, and fresh berries and bananas. I can’t believe I hadn’t come up with this smoothie already on my own! Definitely trying it this week. Thanks!

    1. We have the same favorite SweetFrog combo. I always get tart and peanut butter with fruit and nuts – every single time!!

  11. I love pb2 but i don’t know that where collected me. please any one help me. for pb2 collected.

  12. I love PB and J but I am super picky about the jelly flavor! I can not stand grape jelly! I will only use strawberry or blueberry jelly or I also really like peanut butter and apple butter sandwiches. So good!!

  13. When you used PB2 in smoothies, do you prepare it or just use the powder? Also, I’ve been preparing my PB2 with plain Greek yogurt lately! SO yummy and the extra protein makes it that much more filling!

    1. I just use the powder in my smoothies instead of preparing it first. I love putting PB2 in plain greek yogurt with a little stevia. So good!

  14. I can’t believe I’m going to admit this, but I eat a pb & j almost every single day for lunch. This smoothie is brilliant!

  15. I grew up going to one of those “no-peanut-butter-allowed” schools – pretty sure I didn’t have my first PB & J until high school. Then I cursed my entire upbringing because I had missed out for so long. 😉

Random fact about me? I currently have 14 piercings. 🙂
(It’s not as bad as it sounds because the vast majority are in my ears).

  16. I was JUST saying the other day how I’ve never seen a female pizza delivery person! PS: Another recipe to fuel my PB2 addiction? Don’t mind if I do…

  17. looove the PB&J Idea 🙂 high school I’d eat the same thing every day too lol… it was when I ate meat.. so always… tuna sandwich lol

  18. I ate the same thing every single day in highschool (and I’m pretty sure earlier too): peanut butter and honey. I would also do peanut butter and strawberry jelly. I’ll definitely be making this though, just for old time’s sake. ha.

  19. Yum! Sounds like the perfect post-exercise breakfast smoothie mix!

My random fact- I find the dictionary to be a fascinating read! I’m geeky like that, but I love words 🙂

  20. I think I also had pbj almost everyday. You would think I’d be tired of them, buuuut there are some days where that’s all I want (I try to make grown up versions this time and not made on white Sunbeam bread) ; )

To your #1 – corn was the only vegetable I LIKED. Even when I became vegetarian a few years ago, it was still the only one on my list (weird, right!?). Luckily, I have since grown to love all veggies equally.

  21. Haha, love the PB&J theme! My random fact is that when I find quotations I like on the internet or in a book, I write them down in a little notebook, so I have an always-growing book of favorite quotations!

  22. For about the past 20 years of my life I’ve had a strange phobia of bananas until about 3 months ago and now I can’t get enough of them …in my oats, on pancakes, in pancake batter, dipped in almond butter and of course banana softserve!!!

  23. Ohhh I actually have all the stuff to make this at home! I just bought PB2 for the first time last week and am obsessed with putting it in everything!
