Avocado has always been one of my favorite ingredients to use in the kitchen, especially for dressings. It’s naturally creamy, loaded with healthy fats, and makes anything you drizzle it on feel a little more special. I’ve made avocado ranch and avocado Caesar, but this time I wanted to keep it simple with a classic that really lets the avocado shine.

Why You Gotta Try This One

This dressing has been on repeat in my kitchen lately. It’s bright, herby, and super versatile — the kind of thing I whip up when I want something fresh and flavorful without overthinking it. I’ve been drizzling it over salads and grain bowls, spreading it on wraps, and using it as a dip for raw veggies. It seriously works with everything. Here’s why you’re going to love it too:

  • Made with just a few fresh, wholesome ingredients
  • Naturally creamy thanks to the avocado and Greek yogurt
  • No added sugar, preservatives, or anything weird
  • Comes together in under 5 minutes — no cooking required

Ingredients Needed

Avocado Dressing ingredients: Avocado, Fresh parsley, Plain Greek yogurt, Water, Lemon juice, Garlic, Sea salt, Black pepper, Olive oil
  • avocado – the star of the show! Avocado gives this dressing its rich, buttery texture and signature color. Make sure it’s ripe for easy blending.
  • Greek yogurt – adds extra creaminess and a subtle tang that balances the richness of the avocado. I recommend full-fat or 2% plain Greek yogurt for the best flavor and texture. Skip fat-free (it can be chalky!) and avoid flavored or sweetened varieties.
  • lemon juice – brightens things up and helps balance the richness of the avocado. It also slows browning, so your dressing stays fresh and vibrant for days.
  • olive oil – gives the dressing a silky texture and helps everything blend smoothly.
  • garlic – one clove is all you need for a flavorful punch.
  • parsley – adds a pop of color and herby freshness. You can also sub with cilantro or basil.
  • salt and pepper – basic, but essential for bringing out all the flavors.
  • water – just enough to thin the dressing to your desired consistency. Start small and add more as needed!

Make It Your Own

This dressing is super flexible, so feel free to tweak it based on what you’re craving or what’s in your fridge:

  • Make it dairy-free – Swap the Greek yogurt with a thick dairy-free yogurt like coconut or cashew-based for a dairy-free version.
  • Add some heat – Toss in a slice of jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne for a spicy kick.
  • Switch up the citrus – Swap lemon for lime juice if you want a tangier, zesty vibe.
  • Turn it into a dip – Skip the water for a thicker version that’s perfect with crackers or raw veggies.

How to Make Avocado Dressing

Ingredients for avocado dressing in a food processor, including avocado, Greek yogurt, lemon, and parsley.

Step 1: Scoop the avocado into a blender or food processor. Add the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and water to help it blend.

Step 2: Blend everything together until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides if needed. If the dressing is too thick, add a little more water until you reach your desired consistency. Taste and adjust the salt or lemon juice, if needed.

My Best Avocado Dressing Tips

  • Use a ripe avocado – Make sure it’s soft but not mushy, and free from brown spots. A perfectly ripe avocado gives you the best creamy texture and fresh flavor.
  • Adjust the water as needed – The recipe uses about ⅓ cup of water, but you can start with less if you prefer a thicker dressing, especially if your avocado is extra soft or your yogurt is on the thinner side.
  • Blend it well – A high-speed blender or food processor is key for that silky-smooth texture. The creamier, the better!

How to Store

Store any leftovers in an airtight container or jar in the fridge for 3–4 days. Since this dressing is avocado-based, it may darken slightly over time, but it’s still perfectly fine to eat.

Pro tip: To help prevent browning, press a piece of parchment or plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the dressing before sealing the container.
