These Cadbury Mini Egg overnight oats are a creamy, chocolatey, high-protein breakfast that tastes like dessert but takes just minutes to prep. They’re the perfect make-ahead treat for spring.

Cadbury mini eggs are easily one of my favorite Easter treats, so I had to find another way to use them beyond my Cadbury Mini Egg protein balls and no bake chocolate coconut nests.
I decided to take my brownie batter overnight oats and give them a little Easter twist and honestly… I might like this version even better.
It’s rich, chocolatey, and tastes like dessert, but still has a solid protein boost so it actually works for breakfast.

Why I Love These Overnight Oats

- Fun Easter twist: Mini Cadbury eggs take classic overnight oats and turn them into a festive spring breakfast.
- Perfect for meal prep: Make it the night before and breakfast is ready to go in the morning.
- Actually filling: Between the oats, protein powder and seeds, this recipe is packed with 30 grams of protein and won’t leave you hungry an hour later.
- Feels like a treat: It has that dessert-for-breakfast vibe, but it’s still made with simple, nourishing ingredients.
Ingredients Needed

- rolled oats – the base of the overnight oats. I like rolled oats here because they soften nicely overnight without turning mushy.
- basil seeds or chia seeds – help thicken the oats and create that creamy overnight oats texture. Either one works well. If you’re new to basil seeds, they are similar to chia seeds, but packed with even more fiber. I’ve found that the Zen Basil Seeds brand works best as they gel up quickly and evenly.
- cocoa powder – adds rich chocolate flavor and makes the oats taste extra dessert-like.
- chocolate protein powder – gives the oats a protein boost and adds even more chocolate flavor. I used Equip chocolate protein powder (use code eatingbirdfood for 20% off your first order, or 35% off a subscription), but you can use your favorite brand of protein powder. Just a note that if you use plant-based protein powder you’ll likely need 1 cup of milk since it’ll soak up more liquid.
- unsweetened almond milk – helps soften the oats and brings everything together. Any milk works, so use whatever you have on hand.
- maple syrup – this is optional, but great if you want a little extra sweetness. Depending on your protein powder, you may not need it.
- Cadbury mini eggs – the fun seasonal ingredient that makes these feel extra special. Crushing most of them into the oats gives you little bites of chocolate and candy shell throughout.

How to Make Cadbury Mini Egg Overnight Oats

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a jar or bowl and stir well until fully combined and smooth.

Step 2: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until thick. Stir, add toppings, and enjoy.
Tips for the Best Overnight Oats
- Stir really well at the start: Cocoa powder and protein powder can clump if they’re not mixed in thoroughly, so make sure everything is evenly combined before chilling.
- Crush the mini eggs into small pieces: Smaller pieces mix into the oats more evenly and make them easier to eat straight from the jar.
- Adjust the milk in the morning if needed: Some protein powders and seeds absorb more liquid than others, so don’t be afraid to add a little extra milk before serving.
- Use a protein powder you already like: Since this recipe has a short ingredient list, the flavor of the protein powder really matters here.

How to Store
Overnight oats are great for meal prep and hold up really well in the fridge.
Refrigerator: Store in a sealed jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. The oats will continue to thicken as they sit.
Before serving: Give the oats a good stir and add a splash of milk if they’ve thickened too much.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. You can leave out the protein powder, but the oats will be less chocolatey and lower in protein. You may also want to reduce the milk slightly so the texture stays thick.
This usually happens if your protein powder or seeds absorb more liquid. If you’re using plant-based protein powder you might want to start with 1 cup of milk since it soaks up much more liquid than other types of protein powder.
