Hi friends! If you celebrate Thanksgiving I hope you had a lovely day with friends and family and a great Black Friday. We opted out of the shopping madness this year. I did buy one gift online, but that’s it. I’m more of a Shop Small Saturday, Cyber Monday girl.
Anyhow, today I just wanted to pop in with some light weekend reading… a little update with some things I’ve been diggin’ as of late.
Let’s start with the new EBF design!
I’m SO EXCITED about this! I spent the majority of 2016 working with a designer and developer on updating the site and the new design finally went live this month. It’s responsive, streamlined and feels more professional/sophisticated than my old design. I’m in love with the new logo, color scheme and added functionality. The travel and workout pages are organized and nice to look at now and we also added a shop page to feature some of my favorite finds from kitchen tools and pantry staples to fitness gear and home goods. I hope the new design has made EBF more user-friendly as well. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. 🙂
Next up, let’s talk about this flower arrangement, because I’m still shocked that I could make something this gorgeous from a $17 bouquet of flowers and a few evergreen branches from bushes in our yard.
Last Monday night I signed up for a floral arrangement workshop at Whole Foods. The workshop was hosted by a local floral designer, Carrie of RVA Rose, and she did an amazing job showing us how to turn a store-bought bouquet into elegant centerpiece. She has more workshops coming up next month — one for holiday centerpieces and one of holiday wreaths. I can’t wait to learn how to make a wreath.
In other local news, Richmond just had a new boutique shop open up yesterday in Church Hill. It’s called Dear Neighbor and they have such cute stuff — perfect for gifting. I’m excited to do some holiday shopping there this year.
Dr. Teal’s epsom salt! This stuff has been a life saver for me over the past few weeks. I pulled a muscle lifting weights. I’m not sure if it’s an intercostal muscle or an oblique muscle but it’s been super painful and soaking in a epsom salt bath seems to help. I’m actually going for a float session at Vitality Float Spa today because I think the relaxation and high levels of epsom salt will be helpful.
This shredded kale and brussels sprouts salad. I’ve been making it for Thanksgiving for the past three years because it’s such a hit! If you haven’t tried it yet, you must. It’s definitely an EBF favorite.
Clad and Cloth. I just recently stumbled upon this online boutique via Instagram and I’m obsessed. It’s hard for me to find stores that match my style but I feel like I would wear just about everything for sale on Clad and Cloth. I ordered this copper sweater last week and love it! They offer free shipping (both ways) and they’re having a sale with 25% off everything right now too!
Obviously loving this guy! So thankful for him. 🙂

I adore your new blog design… and those cookies, I want to make them all!!
Thank you lovely lady! <3
The new design looks great, love how soft, feminine and sleek it is, so cozy yet elegant! May I ask who did it?
You two are so cute on that list pic (and your doggy is adorable too!), I love your outfit of dress + boots + over-the-knee socks! 😉
And congrats on learning (and having fun) creating floral arrangements! 🙂
I’m in love with your new site – it’s beautiful! <3 <3
Ooh I love the look of that salad! Definitely craving greens and salads a lot more recently, especially after thanksgiving. Too much turkey!
New design is great! FYI, I think that you meant elegant not eloquent in text.
Haha! Thanks for catching that. 🙂
I always love these type of posts. And I love the new website design! The logo and color scheme are perfect! Thanks for the reminder about that kale and Brussels sprouts salad. I need to make that asap!
Thank you Amanda! These posts are fun for me to write so I’m glad to you know that you enjoy them. I should do them more.
I, too, made this kale brussels sprouts salad. This could be MY new favorite salad too. Now I’m making all kinds of salads with brussels sprouts! Who’d a thunk! Brussels sprouts! However, I just love them any way I can get them.
Yum I am definitely trying that brussel sprouts and kale salad! Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing <3
Yay! You’ll have to let me know what you think.
I made your shredded Brussels sprouts salad for the first time for our Thanksgiving dinner this year. It was fantastic! My husband could not quit eating it. He kept going back for more….unbelievable! I used more sprouts than kale, because that’s what I had on hand it it turned out so pretty with the contrast of the green shreds and the pops of red cranberries. The Romano just sent it over the top delicious.
Thank you for sharing the recipe. It will definitely go into a prime spot in the rotation of our winter salads from now on. Always looking for new ways to get good veggies into the family.
