Make healthy, homemade soda made with just two ingredients: Ultima Replenisher electrolyte powder and sparkling water. Recipes include lemon lime, grape and orange soda!

I don’t know about you, but I love the fresh start of a new year. I don’t really do new year’s resolutions, but I like to reflect on the past year (what worked, what didn’t) and then set some goals and intentions for the new year ahead.

That said, I know many people like to set new year’s resolutions. What if, instead of making a massive list of things to change, you challenged yourself to start with just one small change? Maybe it’s to get in 30 minutes of movement every day or drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water each day. Just be sure to pick something small, doable and measurable!

If you’re a soda lover and toying with the idea of giving up your daily (or weekly) sugary beverage, I’m here to help you make it easier with a healthy electrolyte drink that tastes like soda!! It’s super simple to make, packed with healthy ingredients and satisfying.

Little scooper in a jar of grape electrolyte powder.

This recipe starts with my favorite electrolyte powder… Ultima Replenisher. I’ve been hooked it on it for years now (my fave flavor is the lemonade)! I love the taste and the fact that it helps me to drink more water. I’ve told so many friends and family about it and I’ve gotten Isaac into it too. Isaac was a Gatorade lover, but now he drinks Ultima instead!

A Healthy Drink that Tastes Like Soda?!

We drink Ultima mixed with still water all the time, but one day I was sipping a can of sparkling water and wishing it had more flavor. I had the idea to add Ultima powder to the sparkling water and boom… this idea for homemade electrolyte soda was born! I haven’t had soda in years, but I tasted the drink and immediately thought it tasted like soda. Isaac tried it and he agreed so I knew I needed to share this recipe with you!

What Are Electrolytes?

Three jars of Ultima Electrolyte Drink Mix.

Before we get into the recipe, let’s cover the basics! Electrolytes are essential minerals that are necessary for many bodily functions. You’ll likely most familiar with electrolytes being associated with sports drinks or replenishing electrolytes after a workout. Here’s the deal though, whether you’re an active person or not, we all need these important minerals!

Sports drinks are typically loaded with sugar which is why I love Ultima Replenisher electrolyte powder. Ultima has no sugar, carbs or calories and is compromised of 6 minerals that support optimal hydration:

  • Calcium – important for nerve transmission
  • Chloride – keeps tendons and joints healthy
  • Magnesium – helps convert glucose to energy
  • Phosphorous – helps with nerve signaling and repairs cells and tissues
  • Potassium – involved in nerve transmission and muscle contraction
  • Sodium – works with potassium to balance muscle expansion and contraction

I have tried a few different electrolyte powders and I have to say, Ultima Replenisher powders are the BEST I’ve tried! They’re perfectly flavored, slightly sweet (without sugar) and make drinking water so much more fun. If you struggle to drink enough water throughout the day, add some electrolytes and you’ll be hooked like I am.

Here’s What You Need

  • Ultima Replenisher – Ultima has a variety of flavors that you could use for this recipe, but I went with some of the standard soda flavors.. grape, orange and lemon lime!
  • warm water – I like to dissolve the powder with a little bit of warm water before adding the sparkling water. Adding the powder straight to sparkling water can be messy and the powder doesn’t dissolve as well.
  • sparkling water  – I recommend using unflavored for this recipe because the powder has plenty of flavor, but you could totally add some additional flavor by using a flavored sparkling water. For the lemon lime flavor, instead of adding fresh lime juice you could just use lime sparkling water! If you have a soda stream, you can use homemade sparkling water!
  • fresh lime juice – Adding fresh lime juice will give you that lemon lime soda flavor!

How to Make a Homemade Electrolyte Soda

This homemade soda recipe couldn’t be easier. Here’s how to make them:

  • Dissolve electrolytes – Dissolve your electrolyte powder by adding warm water and the powder into a small mason jar. Shake until it’s dissolved. You can also use a spoon to stir it in, but I think the shaking method works better!

  • Add fizz + flavor – After the powder is dissolved, add 12 ounces of cold sparkling water. If you’re making the lemon lime soda, I recommend adding fresh lime juice or using lime sparkling water.
  • Enjoy!
