The New Nutty Bar

by eatingbirdfood on March 5, 2009

I had the best snack I’ve had in LONG time. And, it reminded me of one of my favs back in elementary school:

Any Nutty Bar fans in the house?? Little Debbie’s treats used to be my snack of choice when packing my lunch and Nutty Bars were on the top of the list with Oatmeal Cream Pies coming in at a close second. I loved that you could pull the wafers apart and eat each slice separately. Only it kind of stunk when there was a middle wafer that ended up having no chocolate or peanut butter. :(

This snack didn’t come from the yellow box above but instead started with this purple box of Wasa Crackers.

Now, I’ve had other varieties of Wasa Crackers and liked them just fine (the Light Rye) but never the Crisp’n Light. I loved these bad boys. They taste sweeter than the Light Rye and seriously remind me of a wafer. Put a little bit of PB on top and you’ve got yourself  A NUTTY BAR! I’m not kidding… you must try this. I promise- it’s good! Well, anything with PB is good, but I still can’t believe how good this is. Maybe it’s the nostalgic factor…

I used Peanut Butter Co- Cinnamon Raisin Peanut Butter but I can’t wait to try it with other nut butters!!

I did eat other things today, but I was most excited about the nutty bar creation. The following is a recap of the rest of the day. Let us start with my lovely raisin oatmeal this morning… so good! Have I mentioned that I love USAM- it makes oats perfectly sweet, not too sweet, just perfectly sweet. The overload of raisins helped with the sweetness today as well.

Blah soup for lunch…..

I really hate to say this because I have never been disappointed by Amy’s, but the Chunky Vegetable soup was way too salty. I almost stopped eating it, but decided I didn’t want to be wasteful. This is really the only Amy’s product that I have ever disliked, which is sad. But I won’t be buying this again.

With the soup I had a ww pita with laugh cow cheese spread, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, and tofukery!

I had snacks this afternoon – granny smith apple and 100 calorie snack bag of popcorn. Dinner was crazy because I was famished when I got home from the gym. I had leftover Amy’s pizza (yes- I am still eating that), some of Isaac’s Tasty Bite Sprouts Curry, some of Isaac’s baked sweet potato with cottage cheese and ketchup. Thanks to Jenn for such a great idea. Isaac hates cottage cheese so he didn’t try it, but I loved it. I’ll definitely be making my own baked SP soon.

Is there anything that you eat that you significant other despises?

Bowl-A-Rama

by eatingbirdfood on February 24, 2009

Strawberries are back in season and I am loving it. They are quite possibly the best fruit eva. I had some sliced, along with half a banana in a serving of Kashi Go lean with USAM and 1/4 scoop of chocolate protein powder. This b-fast was delicious and more importantly had some staying power and kept me full all morning.

I came home for lunch to let my little love muffin out to go potty:

I fixed myself a nice little salad of spinach, broccoli slaw, tomatoes, and TJ’s goddess dressing. Along side the salad I had the leftover lemony shrimp  and white beans with some added  some broccoli. 100_2785

For dessert I had a wasa cracker with Better N PB and a few raisins.

For dinner I had some spinach salad again with a great addition of tabbouleh that Isaac picked up from a Mediterranean deli.

I was feeling a little snacky before we went bowling so I ate some  (about 3/4) of this lovely bar. I’m still loving this flav.

We went bowling because tonight was cheap bowling night. I am horrible at actual bowling, but I am GREAT at wii bowling so at least I have that going for me.

PBJ a Different Way

January 28, 2009

I woke up with morning and did some cleaning – dishes, bleaching the sink, etc. I really like  having a clean kitch. After all the cleaning I had worked up quite an appetite. I decided to to make Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal:  1/2 cup oats 1 cup of water with a smidgen of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk 1/2 banana [...]
