Saturday started with a quick workout session at the Sir Francis Drake hotel gym – 15 minutes on the elliptical and some arm strength training and I had already worked up quite an appetite. Good thing the Nature’s Pride Bread Ambassador’s breakfast at Scala’s Bistro was nice and early! It was great to connect with the Nature’s Pride team, see the 2009 Bread Ambassadors and meet the Bread Ambassadors for this year. Such a fun group!

I was pumped to see Scala’s had several healthy options on the menu (gotta love California for that reason alone.) I went with the egg white omelette “pomodoro” with cherry and oven dried tomatoes, basil, spinach, and a side of seasonal fruit. It was the perfect breakfast considering I knew I would be eating everything in sight for the remainder of the day.
Sessions started at 9AM and I was pretty stoked to have gotten a spot in the Hands on Photography Session aka Food Porn 101 hosted by Marc and Laura.

The session was super short and the hands on portion was quite crowded but I did pick up a few tips and tricks:
- Fancy cameras aren’t the reason for great photos – you can get great shots with point and shoots
- Read the manual for your camera is absolutely necessary, even if it is intimidating (I really need to do this!!)
- Lighting is key for good food photos and what angle the lighting is coming from really affects the photos
- Centering the subject of your photo isn’t always the best angle – remember “the rule of thirds” and align the subject with three points to add more interest to the photo
- Some foods (i.e. lentils, soups, chili, curry, and dark sauces) are plain ugly – pretty them up with bright colors, interesting bowls, or other pretty background items
After the first session a few of us (Tina, me, Cara and Natalie) decided to skip out on the other sessions in lieu of checking out the Saturday morning Farmers Market at the Ferry Building.

Each week over 25,000 people visit the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market! There are booths upon booths of local fruit, vegetables, flowers, meats, eggs, breads, cheeses, jams, live music and even street food vendors!! If you’re ever in San Francisco on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday this is one thing you don’t want to miss – it’s definitely the best farmer’s market I’ve ever been to.

Before heading over to the Foodbuzz Tasting Pavilion Cara and I grabbed a cup of the infamous Blue Bottle Coffee. The line was ridiculous but we knew it’d be worth it.

Each cup of coffee is individually prepared and it’s definitely tasty – a little bit too strong on it’s own for me, but once I added a hefty pour of vanilla soy milk it tasted amazing!

Luckily I was also able to pick up a bag of their coffee beans for a special someone who happens to LOVE strong coffee.
Post Farmers Marketing it up at the Ferry Building we headed to the Foodbuzz Tasting Pavilion… but not before we had a photo shoot with these little guys:
