Busting at the Seams

by Eating Bird Food on September 4, 2010

No, I’m not referring to my pants with the title- haha. I’m talking about the 3 huge bags of produce we came home with from the farmers market! As I mentioned in a previous post, we have quite a bit of CSA funds to use up before the season ends so today we spent a good chunk of it on farm fresh eggs, lots of veggies, and a boatload of apples, which I’m using for a special somethin’ somethin’!

After waking up bright and early for the market I came home and made breakfast with the eggs we had just purchased. I love knowing that my eggs come from happy chickens that are treated well. I already stress out enough on my own. I definitely don’t need the by-products of a stressed out animal in my body.

1 egg, 2 eggwhite omelette stuffed with onions, orange bell pepper, basil and some left over pecornio cheese. T’was delish!

Post breakfast I rushed over to the Opening Weekend event at the Lululemon Showroom here in Richmond!

The store is super cute, organized and well decorated. The Lulu girls did a great job putting the store together!

And look what I found – an Operation Beautiful note on the mirror. :)

I attended the 10AM Intro to Bikram class with Garland. We did each pose 1 time instead of the normal 2 and the room wasn’t heated. It definitely didn’t feel as intense as it does in a bikram studio but it was nice to stretch out. I took it easy on many of the poses because yoga tends to really aggravate my leg issue and I didn’t want to push it.

After yoga I came home and got started cooking my apples and made a smoothie for lunch.

1 frozen banana, 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, cantaloupe, frozen blueberries, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and ice. I topped it with a tiny bit of Udi’s cranberry granola, which has a short ingredient list and tastes yummy. Plus, I found it at Wal-Mart!

I’m off to take Ms. Olive for a walk and then check on my apples, which are bathing in the crock pot right now. I’ll have more details on what I’m cookin’ up later ( my twitter followers already got a big hint), but know that they’re making the house smell like a yankee candle shop; which is great, because I’m a sucker for sweet, food scented candles! You know the ones named things like Vanilla Cupcake, Oatmeal Cookie, Cinnamon and Sugar, Sweet Pumpkin Pie and Warm Apple Crisp. I think I just like the fact that I can make the house smell delicious without having to have a pan of cookies or a whole pie laying around to tempt me.

I know many people dislike these types of candles (Isaac for one- haha) So tell me, do you like food scented candles?

Enjoy the weekend! The weather here is beautiful so I hope to spend as much time as possible outside!

Frothy

by Eating Bird Food on December 29, 2009

Before leaving the beach house yesterday morning I had a frothy non-fat cappuccino and a bowl of Kashi go lean creamy truly vanilla oats with blueberries.

Do you spy my knitting project on the table? I can’t wait to show you all my first “real” knitting project once it’s complete. Any guesses as to what I’m making?

We drove straight home, I hit up the gym, worked on my knitting and went to bed early. (I’m such an old lady.)

The coolest part is that I wasn’t going to bed early because I had to work this morning! One of the perks of working for an educational software company, at least the one I work for, is that I get off the week between Christmas and New Years. So instead of waking early for the office, I was waking early to meet up with my high school girlfriends for brunch in Northern VA.

I wasn’t starving upon leaving the house but I decided to get a little beverage to tide me over until my first meal of the day.

Tall, non-fat latte with 1 pump of sugar-free vanilla. Hot, frothy and muy delicioso.

It was v. fun to see all my ladies!! We don’t get to see each other as often as I would like, but we always try to get together around the holidays when everyone has a bit of time off. This year we decided to meet up at the Silver Diner – of course the company was awesome, but the food wasn’t too shabby either.

I ordered the low fat vegetarian omelette. It came with a sesame bagel, fresh strawberries and a cinnamon sour cream dipping sauce. I strongly dislike sour cream so I wasn’t expecting to like the dipping sauce, but to my surprise, it was sweet, cinnamony and tasted nothing like regular sour cream. I ended up dipping the majority of my strawberries in it and even spreading some on my bagel.

Overall, this was a delicious and healthy option as far as restaurant breakfasts go.

After gabbing about what we’ve all been up to and filling our bellies, we parted ways. A couple of the girls and I headed to a mall nearby to take advantage of the after-Christmas deals. I wanted to check out Ruehl, however it turns out the store was closed and apparently unbeknownst to me, Abecrombie announced earlier this year that the whole chain will be going out of business. It’s a shame, because although they were expensive they had some quality clothing, bags, and a wonderful perfume (that I currently use everyday). I’m thinking I might need to buy another bottle before their website shuts down! We did get to visit the other store I was interested in though- Martin and Osa, a brand concept developed by American Eagle that targets 28-40 year olds. They had some cute stuff and I ended up snagging two tops that were on sale. Gotta love sales!

I hope everyone had a lovely Monday!
