Frisbee Tournament

Watch out for that Frisbee

by Eating Bird Food on May 30, 2010

I’m back from the Ultimate frisbee tournament!

Although the team didn’t bring home the big trophy, it was still a great weekend. I came home with a nice tan and a sunburnt nose and I only got hit with a frisbee twice (this was good for me as I’m known to get hit with things, most notably balls and frisbees). Plus I was able to see two of my favorite ladies and the cutest puppy ever (besides Miss Olive, of course).

She’s a Basset Hound/ Lab mix so I’m not sure how cute she’s going to be when she’s older but right now she is adorable!

I was memorized, along with every other girl at the tournament. I’m sure the guy who brought her was in 7th heaven with all the ladies flocking over. I’m pretty sure he borrowed the dog for the weekend for this exact purpose. haha.

After a long day of frisbee (four games) we all went back to the hotel for a dip in the pool. Although I did nothing but sit on the sideline all day I was still super sweaty and it felt amazing!

For dinner the team went to Mellow Mushroom, which pretty much made my day!

I hadn’t been to Mellow in a long time and forgot all the great options – bbq tofu, regular tofu, and even tempeh! It was a hard decision but I decided to go against ordering pizza and got the Build Your Own Salad. It had spinach and romaine mixed, cucumbers, avocado, artichoke, and tempeh.

Once the salad arrived i was so happy about my choice. I’m pretty sure it had a whole avocado and the tempeh was awesome – I really liked the marinade they used to cook it in. I shared a piece with all the meat eaters at the table and they all liked it as well – go Mellow Mushroom!!

Both mornings I worked out in the hotel gym – it was a lot nicer than my last hotel stay so I was able to get in good cardio workouts and even do my planned workout from The New Rules of Lifting for Women. I finished my first week and so far so good. I think I’m going to save my full review of the workouts until I’m at least a month in but here’s a sneak peek – today’s session involved squats, pushups, rows, step ups, and jack knives.

Post workout the lovely twins, Lori and Michelle from Pure2Raw, were kind enough to scoop me up at the hotel for a little breakfast rendezvous.

Where in the world would you expect to find Carmen San Diego food bloggers?

if you guessed The Chapel Hill Whole Foods, you’d be correct!! I love checking out new Whole Foods – they’re all set-up differently and have “new-to-me” things based on the location.

I’d actually never had the WF breakfast bar before so it was fun to see all the options. They had everything from eggs and bacon to scrambled tofu and sauteed spinach. Apparently they even had oatmeal, but i somehow managed to miss that. It didn’t really though because it was HOT outside and all I wanted was something cold. I ended up with a container full of fresh fruit, some yogurt, cottage cheese, dried blueberries and muesli.

I also grabbed a cup of local joe (Larry’s Beans) with a splash of soy, which by the way was awesome. Larry’s got it going on.

Breakfast was perfect! It was such a blast to catch up with the twins- they’re seriously some of the sweetest gals you’d ever want to meet and of course we had a ton to chat about. Food, food, business, and more food. ;)

It was definitely a highlight of my weekend!

Isaac’s team had two games today so after Lori and Michelle taxied me back to the field (thank you again!!!) I was able to watch their last game and then we all headed home. The boys stopped at Jimmy John’s while I snacked on Pure2Raw crackers, $10.00 cherries and a iced green tea from Starbucks. Too bad I didn’t realize how expensive the cherries were until I looked at the receipt on the drive home. Oops. Oh well, they were fresh and oh so good!

Hooray for the long weekend. I can’t wait to curl up in my own bed tonight and maybe even sleep in tomorrow.

How’s your weekend going?
