I’m convinced that I need a fig tree. In my life before blogging (LBB) I hadn’t ever eaten a fig. Well besides the sticky, seedy figginess in Fig Newtons of course. However, since blogging I’ve tried many new foods including several types of fig products:
- Fig Newmans
- Figamajigs
- Trader Joe’s Dried Black Mission figs (highly addictive little morsels)
- Homemade fig jam
- Dried kalamata figs from the bulk bins (which depending on the store and how old the figs are, they can be awesome or not so awesome)
I had come to truly love the sweetness and seedy texture that dried figs have to offer, yet I still had never sank my teeth through a fresh fig. Imagine my excitement I found out that Isaac’s parents have a FIG TREE!
I picked up some, ate them all in a day and had Isaac pick up more a day later.

Quite a cute little fruit.

After tasting the deliciousness of a fresh fig I’m sad I hadn’t tried them much sooner. They’re the perfect snacking fruit.

I was expecting a seedy texture, similar to that of dried figs, however interestingly enough these fresh figs have seeds but they aren’t textured at all. You don’t even feel em. I highly recommend trying figs (both fresh and dried) if you haven’t before. You won’t be disappointed.
That morning I made a yummy bowl of figgy chia seed oats. Each bite was better than the next. Twas the perfect breakfast for my first morning home, as I think I might have been doing through oat withdrawl while on vacay.

Another breakfast item I had been missing immensely- purple smoothies. I’d gone for way too many days without my breakfast smoothie so I was excited to whip out the vita-mix this morning.

I had a banana, blueberry, and chia smoothie with a slice of cinnamon raisin walnut bread smothered with PB & Co cinnamon raisin swirl pb – a little gift I’ve been treasuring, from none other than Hangry Pants. Thanks again Heather, I’ve been really been enjoying the PB.
Today’s been a lazy Saturday. I’m attempting to dry a few of the figs in my dehydrator and cleaning the house while listening to the live sessions of the Healthy Living Summit. I’ve picked up some great tips and information. I would have loved to attend the summit, but it just wasn’t feasible since I had just taken off work and paid for my vacation to Cayman. I sincerely hope I can attend next year!!
