Whew. It feels like it has been forever since I’ve popped in to say hi. Although, sometimes life just gets busy and it’s nice to take a little break. Here’s what I’ve been up to this weekend.
After realizing our fridge was pretty empty on Friday night we decided a meal out with friends would be fun. We went to a fairly new spot on the Northside of Richmond called The Mill.
It’s a cute spot with friendly staff, plenty of veggie options and a great beer selection. <– The three criteria that matter the most for Isaac and I.
The ladies were in the mood for something to sip on besides water so we split the 22 oz Crispin Honey Crisp hard apple cider.

Crispin Honey Crisp is a small batch, hand crafted, super-premium hard apple cider smoothed with real organic honey for a rich, creamy, full-bodied crisp taste. It was light, sweet and perfect for a humid spring evening. And, just in case you’re interested, it’s gluten-free!!
I had trouble deciding what to order for din because there were many things that looked good. I almost got the MacArthur park pizza with garlicky brocoletti and vegan cheese but I ended up getting the greek salad with grilled shrimp and the honey garlic vinaigrette.

It was BIG and filled with delicious fresh veggies. Perfect choice!
On Saturday I woke up early and went for a run (woo-hoo. It feels awesome to be able to run a little bit now!) and then showered up for visiting the farmers market with a friend.
This week I decided to check out one of my favorite markets in Richmond, The South of the James Market.

Despite the dreary weather, the market was hopping with people. Many of my old favorites were there- Pizza Tonight, Blanchards Coffee, Faith Farms, Victory Farms (the CSA I was part of last year) but there were quite a few new vendors as well!!
One of the new vendors was Grayhaven Winery, a local winery that specializes in small-batch production of wines. The winery is located in Gum Spring, VA about 30 minutes from both Richmond and Charlottesville.

Wine tasting at 10AM? Don’t mind if we do.

My favorites were the Moonlight White and the Pinotage.
I’ve always known that Virginia has a lot of different wineries but I never realized how good the wines were. Some VA winery tours are definitely in order soon! Who’s in?
Here’s what I ended up buying at the market- an iced coffee, kale (2 huge bunches!), asparagus, spring mix, beets and a block of Rocky Mount Semi-soft mild goat cheese with a rind of rosemary, and chopped jalapenos from Sullivans’ Pond Farm for Isaac. Quite the successful farmers market visit!
Speaking of farmers markets, check out my guest post over at PB Fingers – 10 Tips for Farmers Market Newbies.
On tap for today- laundry, yoga, getting ready for Fit Bloggin’ (YAY) and a visit to the grocery store. I hope to be back soon with a couple recipes!!
