Un-Gala

by eatingbirdfood on May 1, 2009

My company applied to the VMFA MUSE Awards. Although we weren’t a finalist we received two complimentary tickets to the un-gala. The tickets were past down, as the CEO and Marketing Director couldn’t attend. So I was next in line. I’m not one to pass up a good party so I said yes and of course, I brought Isaac along.

The theme of the un-gala was different time periods (1930s, 1950s, and 2010)- all of the music and food was centered around the themes and everyone was suppose to dress in costume. Isaac and I kind of waited until the last minute on this one so we weren’t really decked out, but it was fun to see those that were. And, the food and drinks were delicious:

The first plate (I’m pretty sure these were inspired from the 30s): Crab stuffed mushroom, cream cheese lox with caviar, and cheese crusted artichoke dip with crostinis. I wasn’t a huge fan of the dip so I didn’t eat much of that- everything else was delicious, especially the crab stuffed mushroom.

The second plate (2010): Vegetable Samosa, Baigan-bhartha, papadams (?) and dipping sauces from the chicken lettuce wraps (I had one of those as well minus the chicken). I also had a TON more papadams – they were good!

There were drinks to be had as well. The pink drink was perfect. It was champagne with X-RATED FUSION, vodka infused with blood oranges, mango, passion fruit. YUM – I had two of these!!

Overall, we had a ton of fun meeting new people and also finding out who actually won the Muse Awards. Interestingly enough a new restaurant, Mezzanine 3433, which serves all local foods was a finalist. Isaac and I have eaten there once before, but we will definitely going back soon.

I’m so pumped it’s Friday – enjoy your weekend!

Raw things going on around the blogosphere:

Gina is giving away an Ani Phyo raw dessert cookbook

Gena is giving away a spiralizer- perfect for raw pasta!

Shred It

by eatingbirdfood on March 16, 2009

Rise and Shine my lovelies. I have a feeling this week is going to be wonderful.

I’ll start where I left off yesterday. I woke up LATE and ate my oats LATE and then putzed around the casa. Reading blogs, posting on my own, looking up lots of stuff online. It was a miserable wet day so I was really tempted to just stay inside all day! Around 1:30PM I finally got my butt in gear, packed a bag for the gym and got ready to go. Then I realized that I should probably eat lunch or bring a snack with me shopping or I would end up buying something to eat while out.

I grabbed this little whipper snapper. The White Chocolate Macadamia Nut is my favorite Clif Bar now, and I don’t even like white chocolate . Go figure.

I was hungry, hence the bite taken out of the bar before the photo.

I don’t usually eat bars for meal replacement but since I had eaten a large breakfast this was perfect for lunch. I shopped around and didn’t find much of anything. I got a shirt for myself and a shirt for Isaac, went to the gym for Sunday Stretch (ahhh.. relaxing), did 10 minutes of cardio and dipped out. I just wasn’t feeling it so I headed to Target and rushed home because by this time I was pretty hungry.

Pretty much as soon as I walked in the house I fixed up this salad with the only salad ingredients I had on hand: tomoatoes and spring mix with sweet poppyseed dressing.

And heated up my left over Indian- Baigan Bhartha. I also had a little left over WW cous cous and 1 peice of WW naan.

It was just as good the second time around! After eating dinner I was still pretty hungry- I guess because I hadn’t really eaten that much all day and decided to have a bowl of Kashi go lean, then some cottage cheese.

Last by not least, while I was at Target I picked up Jillian Michaels 30-Day-Shred workout DVD. I had seen it on a couple blogs, most notably Maggie’s and thought I should give it a chance. I’m not a huge workout DVD fan, but sometimes it’s nice to have a workout I can do at home. So I started with level 1 for Day 1 last night and overall it was a good 20 minute workout. It wasn’t too challenging, but also wasn’t easy-peasy, and there are other levels to move up to so I am happy with the purchase. I couldn’t get my HRM to work so I don’t have the calculations for calories burned, but next time I do the video, hopefully it will work and I will post that info. for you guys. I’ll also keep you posted on how I like it, if it gets boring, and how the other levels are, etc..

Anyone else doing the 30-day Shred? Hows it going?

Weekend Update

March 15, 2009

I’m still hooked on breakfast for dinner so Friday evening I ended up having this lovely meal: 1 egg, 2 egg whites, onions and tomatoes with some hot sauce sprinkles. Veggie sausage. Green grapes and strawberries. I am kind of bummed about the berries. They just aren’t that sweet and they are from Whole Foods [...]
