I’m at the beach! Only for a few hours longer, but I’m here.
Isaac and I were talking about when the last time I had been to a beach when it has been warm enough to swim and we realized it was two years ago when I went to Cayman Island with my friend Angie. I’m so glad I had a chance to change that this weekend.

We drove down to Nags Head on Thursday night to stay with two of our friends from college who are living/working here for the summer.
We’ve had a blast!!! The weather has been beautiful and the beach water is amazingly clear, to the point where you can see your feet and the fish swimming around. I’ve never been to Nags Head and been able to see through the water so it’s been pretty awesome.
We got in late on Thursday night, got a bit of sleep and headed straight to the beach come Friday morning. Lots of relaxing, some swimming and a little frisbee action took place…

Soakin’ up the sun.

I brought some good reading material including the Carrots N’ Cake book, Ravenous and Health magazine. I ended up finishing Carrots N’ Cake and only have a few more chapters left in Ravenous. Carrots N’ Cake is like reading Tina’s blog in book form – I loved it and already have some recipes dogeared to try.
After a few hours at the beach we headed home to clean up and then went to the Outer Banks Taco Bar for some lunch/dinner. <– It was 4PM so I’m not sure what to call it. I find that often times when I’m hanging out with all guys we end up eating at such weird times. It seems intuitive to simply eat when you’re hungry but I’m a stickler for my scheduled eating times so it seemed so odd to be eating a big meal at 4PM when normally I would be having my mid-afternoon snack around that time.

Let’s just call the tacos along with the chips and salsa I ate, my mid-afternoon snack.
OBTB had New Belgium’s Somersault Summer Seasonal on tap…

This made Isaac a happy camper!

I tried a few sips and it was really good. It’s one of the better summer beers I’ve had, although I will say Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy is the household favorite at the moment.
They also had hearty and salty tortilla chips, made-to-order corn tortillas and a fun salsa bar. The salsa bar had a few different salsas, hot sauces and a good selection of fresh and pickled veggies.

I had a fish taco and a veggie taco. I topped both with pickled veggies, lettuce and guac – they were delish!

Saturday morning we woke up at a decent hour and went out on the beach for an AM walk. We came back and ate breakfast and then went back to the beach in our suits.

See how clear the water was? I felt like we were in Mexico.
We were going to be a the beach for a while so I packed a lunch with two of my favs – peanut butter and jelly and popchips. A little sea salt and vinegar down by the sea.

One highlight of the afternoon was renting a jet ski! I think Isaac enjoyed driving the jet ski through the ocean way more than I did. I had fun but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be sore from holding on so tightly. They go fast, seriously!
I deserved a drink for being girl-friend of the year and jet skiing with Isaac, so we grabbed a couple at our friends’ bar, Sunset Grille.

Margarita for Isaac and a “special” concoction for me made by our friend. I told him to make something with soda water as the base, vodka and little fruit juice. It was pineapply and delicious.
As it turns out the restaurant is named Sunset Grille for a reason…

It has one of the best views of the sunset in Duck, NC.

I love how patriotic this photo turned out to be.
This morning we’re packing things up and heading home. It was a short visit and as always, it’s sad to leave the beach but we definitely enjoyed the time we had down here. It was a nice little break and having friends to make us feel right at home made it perfect.
Happy belated Canada Day and Happy 4th of July eve! Will you be celebrating? If so, how?
