Sushi and Smelling like a Fig

by Eating Bird Food on August 21, 2010

How’s your weekend going? Mine has been quite eventful thus far, for only being half-way through…

Friday evening, I stumbled upon this little gem:

Akida, may look like a hole in the wall and may only be as big as one, but don’t let it fool you.

Big portions of seaweed salad – always a winner in my book.

And fresh sushi served with flavorful ginger and wasabi make me even happier. Turns out the spicy tuna roll had tempura in it. I don’t typically order rolls with tempura and it wasn’t noted on the menu, but I rolled with it (get it?). It was Rebekah’s birthday dinner so why not celebrate with a little fried-ness? ;) Plus, there’s no denying that it wasn’t delicious.

I’ll definitely be going back to Akida the next time I’m craving sushi – it’s one of the better sushi places I’ve been to here in Richmond.

Moving on to today, since after dinner I basically just came home, iced my leg/hip/back and crashed out.

In a nut shell: I did a sampling demo at Whole Foods for 3 hours, shopped and ate lunch there, then proceeded to spend all my earnings (that I haven’t even been paid for yet) at Ulta and World Market. Oops.

Ulta sucks you in with those $3.50 coupons and then you end up buying way too much stuff for the discount of $3.50 to even matter – does this happen to anyone else or am I the only one that buys into their little marketing ploy. PS: I’m not having buyer’s remorse – I truly like everything I bought today – I’m just saying…

Oh yes, and I got something fun (non-food related) at Whole Foods today – Pacifica Mediterranean Fig Solid Perfume. I smelled it last time I went in, which was only two days ago (yes, I might be addicted to Whole Foods – let’s not talk about it).

But, I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I liked this perfume so I decided to buy it today.

IMG_6377.JPG

I L.O.V.E. it. The smell is semi-light, but super sweet with a hint of sandalwood. Typically I’m not keen on fruit scented lotions and perfumes. I’d prefer to eat my apples and berries, not to smell like them, thanks! But, figs don’t really have that much of a smell to me so I’m not sure if this perfume actually smells like figs or not. Go FIG.ure! (Oh man, I’m just full of great jokes tonight!)

IMG_6386.JPG

Isn’t the tin cute? It’s my first time buying a solid perfume and I wasn’t sure I would like having to apply it with my finger, but so far it hasn’t been a problem. Also a plus – the wax, made of coconut and soy, that contains the fragrance is vegan and doesn’t contain parabens.

So despite feeling a little under the weather tonight (my throat is hurting- ugh!) I made an outrageously delicious dinner! I think it might deserve a post of it’s own, it was that good! With that said, I’m now off to wash and shine my hair and paint my nails. <– Can you tell I’m excited about today’s purchases? ;)

Have a lovely evening.

-Brittany

Hole in the walls, are where you always find great eats. I’m a sucker for fruit scented lotions especially in the Summer time.

I completely forgot to mention that all fruit isn’t off limits – I do love coconut scented lotions. :)

Akida! We went there once and it was quite nice, even with a toddler in tow. I don’t know why we haven’t been back, maybe I will check it out again. I like Umi in Short Pump, but, well, it’s in Short Pump. It’s also a bit pricey.

I haven’t been to Umi. I would love to check it out though.

I love solid perfumes! You can apply it with a q-tip pretty well too if you don’t feel like having sticky fingers.

P.S. I’ve been bad at blog reading lately, what product are you doing demos for?

Hey Emily. You didn’t miss it. I just haven’t wrote about it before. I’m demoing for Solixir.

Have a fun pampering night!
Oh, and as per yesterday’s post, my personal fermentation bible is Sandor Katz’s Wild Fermentation. So many good ideas, and anecdotes to boot!

The candles were tempting me as well – but I went with the perfume. Maybe next time I’ll get a candle.

I have some fig scented lotion and body wash and it smells amazing!

I don’t get suckered in at Ulta — but I do everywhere else! A $5 off coupon if I spend $50, somehow that gets me every time! Have a great weekend!

Haha, loved your sushi pun:)
That fig perfume sounds great–perfume is the sole cosmetic that I really enjoy shopping for, so I will have to keep my eye out for it.

I’ve biked by that place a couple of times and I’ve heard good things about it :) I’m not a big sushi person because usually there’s not much variety when you’re a vegetarian. But I love how fresh it all looks.

Ooo little purchases are sure to brighten anyone’s day up :) And I’m glad they brightened yours! I love being excited about things I get.

XOXO

MMM…Sushi is one of my favorites and seaweed salad is a must!
I’m not a fan of the spicy wasabi, but the ginger is so crisp and cooling on my tongue.
