Grill Master

by Eating Bird Food on May 31, 2010

Today was all about relaxation- although, my dream of sleeping in didn’t come to fruition. I actually woke up a little after 7 starving.

No worries – it as nothing a big bowl of cereal with almond milk and a banana tower couldn’t cure!

We didn’t have plans to attend any Memorial Day cook-outs today so I decided we should grill out on our own. I marinated a pressed block of tofu with a tablespoon each of tamari, olive oil and locally-made House Citrus Herb Tuna Marinade- plus a little fresh back-porch basil.

After marinating for about an hour I put the tofu and some veggies (with a touch of oil olive) on the grill.

Isaac’s usually the grill master, but he was out playing golf and I was hungry so I got the grill started on my own. Okay, not really on my own. I had to call Isaac for help with how to get it started, but after that part I basically became a veggie grilling pro.

Check out my mad skillz. :)

Paired with brown rice, the veggies and tofu made quite the grilled feast.

Isaac and I ate it up while watching At the Table With…. Cat Cora on the new Cooking Channel that launched today. It’s a sister channel to The Food Network with the slogan, “A new network for food people by food people.” Apparently they plan to start out as The Food Network did with more informational and instructional shows. I’m not sure how often I’ll get to watch it, but I think it’s awesome there’s going to be another food channel. I used to be all about The Food Network but nowadays I don’t watch TV that often. Blogging has kind of taken TV time over. :)

Post dinner I snacked on a Voskos Greek Yogurt I was sent to review.

Voskos Greek Yogurt

Exotic Fig flavor is the first Voskos I’ve tried and all I can say is Holy Yum! The yogurt itself was thick, rich and had tiny fig bits dispersed throughout. For some odd reason the light tan color made the yogurt seem more like a decadent treat than a healthy yogurt. Come to think of it, maybe that was the Zaydie’s Granola and cacao nibs that I threw on top.

Once I try the plain flavor I’ll let you know how Voskos compares to all the other Greek yogurt brands out there. I already have my favs, as I’m sure most of you do as well, so it will be interesting to see where it ranks.

Last but certainly not least, Happy Memorial Day to my fellow US readers. A huge thank you goes to all of men and women who serve our country everyday, along with a very special shout out to my uncle, cousin and Gina’s pilot.

Alright folks, if you’re like me you’ll be singing this tune tomorrow morning and with that said I better hit the hay.

G’night!

- Brittany

Would you know that I’ve never grilled tofu? You make me want to try. And I too was a Food Network junkie back in the day :)

Your dinner looks wonderful! I find my tofu falls apart on the grill – I may have to try pressing it more? Yours like restaurant-perfect. Love the cute photos of you grilling, too!

You go girl! Looking good behind that grill! :)

Toly usually does all the grilling, but sometimes I try to sneak in and do some grilling myself. I always feel so empowered behind the Weber! :)

Happy Memorial Day love. Hope you had a fantastic long weekend.

Fig flavored yogurt? Must…find…stat!

I’m going to try to find that new cooking channel! I used to watch the Food Network too, but not so much anymore (I feel like it’s always re-runs!). The one show that I do still try to watch is “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.” It’s basically top chefs sharing their favorite foods…aka major food porn. haha!

I actually do the grilling for the most part here. My husband is normally working when I am cooking so I just get to it. He likes to do it occasionally, but when people are around, he gets preoccupied and stuff starts to burn. I am the one that is on it with the food…but that is kind of my thing! Looks like a great dinner!

just made the chewy oat squares… DELICIOUS!
great recipe, thanks for putting that up!
Question… how did/do you calculate the nutrition facts?

I created a recipe on http://www.livestrong.com and they calculate the nutrition facts. The facts are based on the recipe creating 16 squares.

Loving the grill for sure!

What’s the sugar like on the fig yogurt? I’m not entirely sold on plain greek yogurt (a little to…well, too plain!) for my liking, but some of the flavored options I’ve been checking out have 18-22 grams of sugar…kind of takes the healthy appeal out of it.

The fig Greek yogurt has 22g of sugar- which like you said does kind of take the healthy appeal out of it, but it’s great for a treat and has a good amount of protein.

Your food looks amazing brittany. (: I really want to try the yogurt. We just bought some tofu not too long ago, but i didn’t know how to make it. The kind we got isn’t the extra firm, it’s regular and I’m not sure if that makes a difference. But anyways, this site helps alot! thanks (:
