Home Again Home Again, Jiggity Jog

by Eating Bird Food on March 22, 2010

The train ride home from Fit Bloggin was more uneventful than the ride up – besides the 5 year old child behind us singing the Kinks- Lola. That was interesting. Anyhow, Isaac scooped me up at the train station. I was starving and food supplies were limited at home so we stopped by Ellwood’s for a bite to eat.

This was what I was craving!!! Doesn’t it look delicious?

Sadly, they didn’t have my favorite, the Goddess Tofu wrap so I settled for the Vegan BLT with tempeh. Isaac got the Ethiopian Chickpea wrap and we shared.

IMG_4009.JPG

I wasn’t impressed. Maybe I just had my heart set on the Goddess wrap but neither of these wraps were that exciting. The BLT was too dry and the Ethiopian was lacking in the veggie department. Oh well, there’s always next time! I tend to frequent Ellwoods quite often. :)

The weather was beautiful here yesterday but I couldn’t get motivated to get outside and go for a run. I did some laundry, tinkered around the house and hit up the grocery store. I had plans to whip up a new recipe for dinner but ended up with something super simple.

IMG_4021.JPG

Microed sweet tater topped with cottage cheese and ketchup and some veggies with hummus on the side. Sometimes easy, fast dinners just hit the spot.

I was still sleep deprived from the weekend and woke up late this morning. Instead of going to the gym I decided to try out an unreleased 10 Minute Solution: Ultimate Bootcamp DVD that I received at Fit Bloggin. (Have I mentioned that we were hooked up with some good swag??)

IMG_4020.JPG

I only tried out two of the five 10 minute workouts, the cardio and ab attack sections. Both were 10 minutes of intense exercises that really got me sweating and I liked knowing that I only had to do 10 minutes of each. Plus it felt good to move after taking Sunday off!

Thanks to Fit Bloggin I was totally Gruvey today.

IMG_4018.JPG

Fit Bloggin attendees were able to try out the Gruve, a personalized calorie burn tracker, for the weekend. I was totally pumped when during the conference they announced we’d be able to keep them!

The coolest part is that it does more than just track your calorie burn. You clip it on your pants near your hip and it monitors your movement and tracks your calorie burn. There’s a little light on it that goes from red to yellow to green as your activity increases. And, if you stay stationary for too long it vibrates to remind you to get moving!

IMG_4010.JPG

(Don’t mind my goose bumps.)

It was yellow when I got back from the gym, but it was red all day and vibrated more than 3 times throughout the day. I guess it wasn’t very happy with me and my sedentary desk job.

IMG_4013.JPG

I really liked having a little reminder to get up from my desk and walk around a bit, but it stinks because the Gruve software that actually lets you view your activity intensity, calorie burn and movement with charts and set movement goals doesn’t work with Mac computers as of yet. So at this point I won’t be able to use it to it’s full capability. :/

Most of my eats for the day were pretty uneventful but dinner definitely needs to mentioned.

IMG_4025.JPG

Cumin Lime Tofu from Eat Drink and Be Vegan, roasted butternut squash sprinkled with sea salt, and collard greens cooked in 1/4 cup of water/ 1tbsp. tamari. I topped the greens with a little Lemon Tahini dressing.

IMG_4026.JPG

Holy yum! This was one of the better dinners I’ve had in a while. I loved the combination of flavors from each item on the plate.

To end on a sweet note I had a bite of Righteously Raw chocolate. The 90% cacao makes this bar bittersweet and the goji berry and fig innards added just the touch of sweetness it needed.

IMG_4029.JPG

I used to hate dark chocolate, but now that I’ve learned to savor it by letting it melt in my mouth rather than chewing it, I like it much better than milk chocolate.

I’m off to finish watching a movie with my love pie then hitting the hay. I hope you all had a wonderful day.

As for the title, my mom used to say this little phrase all the time when we returned home from somewhere. It reminds me her and makes me smile. :) Do you have any sayings that remind you of your family? Maybe it’s a Southern thing but this is just one of many that my family used to say. I could probably write a whole list of them.

Oh those “quiet & well behaved” children hahaha.

I was obsessed with the Gruve all day long and finally got to do a workout with it on – love this thing!

Hopefully tomorrow will start out without torrential downpours and storms :P

Last October, I named a post “Home again, home again, jiggity jig”: http://www.howeverabsurd.com/2009/10/12/home-again-home-again-jiggity-jig/

Funny! Even funnier is the little kid singing Lola. That’s awesome.

I hate when you have your mind set on a certain food to order and they are all out!!!! Oh well, the wrap did look good, but too bad you couldn’t have your favorite.

I have heard those workouts are good ones. A nice 10 min cardio sesh is always good to have on hand!

Hi Hi! How are you? So glad to hear you had fun at fitbloggin- wish I could have gone (tearrrr). Your sweet potato/veggie/hummus dinner looks so yummy to me. This is my favorite kind of dinner- easy, lots of variety, tasty, filling! Can’t go wrong. Hope you have a good Tuesday

I used to go to Ellwoods all the time when I lived there. Glad to see you like it to ;) We tried the whole dvd and thought it was alright. Different for us – we have never really done a boot camp type of workout before, so it took us awhile to get used to it.

I would love to try that Goji chocolate bar. The darker and more bitter the better when it comes to chocolate. :)

I am dying to try that wrap! Also, I believe that phrase actually comes from a nursery rhyme that goes “To market to market to buy a fat hog, home again home again jiggity jog”

Is the gruve kinda like a Bodybugg?
Phrase from my childhood….”Rise and shine, it’s daylight in the swamp!”

Everything you ate looks delicious! Although I couldn’t figure out what the wrap was for a second.. my brain is slightly sleep deprived.. I’ll stick with that as my excuse.

That Gruve device looks incredible! Is the product still being tested out or is it already on the market? That looks like a wonderful way to gage your daily activity level.

You know what else looks incredible? That cumin tofu! I’m going to have to look into to this E,D, and BV book. I’m seeing incredible recipes from it smattered all over the blogosphere.

Even though songs about transvestites aren’t the most appropriate thing for a 5-year-old to be singing, that’s a pretty awesome thing to overhear. Maybe I’m just biased because I’m a huge Kinks fan.

Love the name of the post! It reminded me of the original Miracle on 34th Street – Santa sings that song it and that movie always brings a smile to my face :)

I wore by Gruve to work yesterday and today too and realized how awful my desk job is! It won’t stop vibrating haha. It wasn’t till I did 45 minutes of cardio after work that I got it to the blue light!

I just wanted to tell you that I made your version of Kashi’s Mayan Harvest Bake tonight (for lunch tomorrow) and it looks/smells so good! I am not one for buy frozen meals, but recreating them? I am all for it. :)
Thank you for the recipe! Hope you had a good day and I am off to do a little ‘Gruve’ education….
