This morning ended up being out of the norm, but really nice. I woke up early for an AM gym visit, did a little cardio and some arms, and called Isaac on the way home . He had a 1 hour delay for work and suggested that we should meet up for a bagel. I said coffee and we ended up compromising by meeting at a place that serves both, Ellwood’s Coffee.
To sip: Clover for him. Soy latte for her.

I was all excited for Ellwood’s coffee because they offer organic and natural sweeteners (agave, stevia, etc.), but turns out the latte so was tasty I didn’t need any added sweetness.
To nosh: Onion bagel smothered with cream cheese for him. Soy Yogurt Parfait for her.

I wasn’t going to eat anything but Isaac insisted so I snagged the granola, fruit, and yogurt parfait from the grab and go section. It was a good thing I did because 1.) It was delicious and 2.) We ended up hanging out on a comfy couch at the shop for a little while and I had minimal time back at home to shower and get ready for work. Twas a great way to switch things up mid-week!
My soy filled breakfast kept me full all morning long, but like always, I was still hungry for lunch when 12 came around. Back at the casa I made a romaine salad with red onion, green bell pepper and 1/4 of an avocado. I used leftover maple balsamic sauce as dressing and had a side of ww pita dipped in leftover tahini sauce from the warm butternut and chickpea salad.

I love having leftover sauces and dressings on hand- they really perk up other meals.
As a snack I sampled some new buckwheat granola I was sent from Kaia Foods – a CA based company that makes raw snacks by sprouting and dehydrating. No baking, frying, or bleaching involved!

Granola without oats- say what?

Yup – this granola is completely different than any other granola I’ve had previously, but it’s also delicious! The subtle sweetness from the raisins, coconut, vanilla and agave is just right. And, the sprouted little buckwheat seeds are super crunchy and fun to munch on. Plus, like other sprouted nuts, seeds, and grains, sprouted buckwheat is packed with nutritional benefits. Lastly, I love the chunkiness as I’m a huge fan of snackable granola!!
So, the Raisin Cinnamon flavor was tasty and I’m now stoked to try out this little Kaia Foods assortment – more buckwheat granola (Cocoa Bliss and Dates & Spices), sprouted sunflower seeds (Sweet Curry, Teriyaki, Cocoa Mole, Garlic & Sea Salt), and fruit leathers (Goji Orange, Vanilla Pear)!

In case you were wondering, because I certainly was, Kaia rhymes with Papaya.
After having the buckwheat granola I’m totally tempted to make my own sprouted buckwheat cereal!! As you all know, I’m nowhere near a raw foodist nor do I think I will ever be. However, I do think incorporating sprouted and raw foods into my diet is a good way to increase my consumption of minimally processed foods that are full of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.
Happy Mod Fam Day! Did you all celebrate by watching?

Yum! That granola looks like an awesome snack. I love more ‘cluster-like’ granola as its easier to eat as a snack/without milk.
I’ve been getting into raw foods too (although I have no plans to go “raw”). The granola sounds really good!
I love the raw granola. It’s different, but still mighty mighty tasty!

Oh no way jose!!! Me, skip breakfast- neveah!! I was just going to eat at home instead of at the coffee shop.
Oh my gosh…those pumpkins seeds look so good! (or maybe they’re sunflower seeds or something else). But anyway, that stuff looks great!
Wow that granola looks like it’s packed full of good stuff!! And I did celebrate by watching!!
Modern Family cracks me up!
Interesting. I always think of granola as always oat based too. Wonder how it works with the buckwheat because it then makes me wonder if I could make a wheatberry granola by some how parcooking the grains first. Hmmmmmm……
That granola looks yummy!!! Soy yogurt parfait, not so much. I’ve tried, I can’t do soy yogurt!
That granola looks delicious! I have never tried buckwheat granola, but it seems like it would make an awesome snack.
Jackpot! Those granola samples look delicious
Getting ready for our usual weekend snow event?

I’m dying to get a food dehydrator just for rawnola. This might have to work until then…
Ooh! I am always looking for a new smoothie topper:)
A place that serves soy yogurt? That is awesome!
And the granola looks so yummy. Lucky you!
Buckwheat granola sounds delicious! I’ll have to get my hands on some of that for sure.
Ugh, I still haven’t seen Modern Family!! I’ve been dying to watch it, but I always seem to miss it :/ I hear it’s hilarious, though!
It is so funny. I highly recommend watching it. It comes on at 9PM on Wednesdays.
The granola sounds wonderful. I would totally try it.
I’m so intrigued by that granola! What a cool concept
Those sprouted sunflower seeds sound really good – sweet curry?! Yum! Glad you guys had a fun midweek breakfast!!
How fun! in the morning i’m all about the coffee break, and meeting up at a cute little shop sounds ideal! I’m going to have to grab some of that granola, it’s so unique! Great blog, I love the title!
Thank you Jenna!!
That buckwheat granola does look great! Nice twist on the oatie variety. Aren’t coffee breaks just grand? Soy lattes often don’t need the extra sugar, they are creamy and just sweet enough! Yes, it is awesome to have dressings & salsas in the fridge…hummus too!
I like the original Kombucha flavor but its never that fizzy. I like my REALLY fizzy so I stick with Trilogy, cranberry, and citrus. Okay I also like gingerberry. YUM! My wallet is suffering though. haha.
I love Kaia foods!!
Yum!
