New Stuff

by Eating Bird Food on December 3, 2009

Are the holidays making you a little crazy? I don’t feel stressed out yet but my social calendar is filling up ever so quickly (a wedding, a graduation, 3-4 holiday parties, social media meetup, raw foods meetup, cookie bake, 4 birthdays in my family, not to mention the actual holidays themselves- we celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas) and I still have yet to start my actual shopping!! AHH.

With that, here’s a short post of what I’ve been putting in my mouth lately.

New Kashi TLC that I really enjoy:

I’m pretty sure the Toasted Asiago is my favorite flavor yet. Although, it might be a tie between these and the Honey Sesame.

The last of the crackers were consumed with some left over Sweet Potato Lentil Chili.

A piece of Newman’s Own Dark chocolate with Himalayan sea salt.

The sweet and savory combo is awesome- love it!

I’ve also been snack on some granola- in the form of a plank.

I reviewed some Honest Foods products long ago and I remember loving the blueberry vanilla crackle plank. This time I wasn’t too impressed, Before the planks were chewy and easy to break apart. This time the plank was REALLY hard. I honestly thought twice about eating it because I didn’t want it to break my teeth- not so fun. I’m wondering if the recipe has changed since the packaging changed? Has anyone else tried both the new and old granola planks?

I also had a new granola bar recently. The folks at 18 Rabbits offered to send me a few bars to sample and I was excited to give them a go. The only one that I have tried is the Funky Figs and Cherries and it was delicious. I loved the seedy and nutty texture of this bar and the flavor was neither too sweet or too bland. I have to say it’s one of the best granola bars I’ve ever tasted. I’m pumped to try the other flavors- particularly the Haute Diggity Date. I love dates and how cute is that name?

Also, I have to mention that I truly frustrated myself today. A co-worker knows that I like the veggie chips from Fresh Market. She brought some into work today and gave me a 1lb freezer bag about 1/4 of the way full. I ate a few handfuls as a mid morning snack and then ate quite a bit more during a 12PM social media marketing webinar that I was listening in on. Long story short by the end of the morning I had eaten about the majority of the chips and by the end of the day the bag only had a few crumbs left!!! I was shocked and annoyed that I ate that many.

Note to self/blog world – these are addicting!!

Photo from here.

I know there are worse things to eat a whole bag of, but these aren’t exactly healthy. They’re kind of one of those not so healthy “healthy” snacks- especially when you can’t control how much you eat. I have a couple foods that trigger mindless eating including trail mix, chex mix, tortilla chips, and dry cereal – I guess this is another one to add to the list. Do you have any specific foods that trigger mindless eating? What do you do to keep it from happening?

So after the major snack session I wasn’t even that hungry for lunch.

I ended up going halfsies by having half a pummelo,

IMG_2696.JPG

A delicious fruit btw. It’s similar to grapefruit only it’s easier to peel and sweeter.

IMG_2692.JPG

And half a pb and jelly sandwich on cinnamon swirl bread.

IMG_2697.JPG

I wouldn’t normally make my sandwich on this type of bread, but the double fiber wheat was moldy. :/

And the cinnamon swirl was actually quite delicious.

So tomorrow’s another day and since I ate all the veggie chips today they won’t be around to tempt me tomorrow. I guess that’s the one good thing about eating the whole bag. :)

Happy Friday – any big plans for the weekend?

I’ve heard of these bars before, they sound great!

The bars were a bad batch!!!!!! A mixing problem. They are supposed to be the same consistency. They will send you more to replace ‘em.

Okay just learned a new fruit tonight, never heard of a pummelo before? Did you grab that at Elwoods? So intrigued! Big plans for the weekend include unexpected car shopping, Funny Bone and a tacky sweater party if the weather holds out!

Can something called a plank be good!? The connotation doesn’t translate into something I would like to eat!

My friends from Nepal taught me a trick with the Pomelo. Try a light sprinkle of cayenne or chili powder on it. Sweet & spicy, Yum!

We celebrate both holidays too!

I mindlessly eat pita chips, crackers and dry cereal if I’m not careful. If I put some in a bowl and hide the rest of the bag/box in another room, I usually do okay :)

The honey sesame is my favorite type of kashi crackers :)
Those are the exact same foods that make me eat mindlessly, so I try not to keep them around, or to ask myself how hungry actually am.

I love the 18 Rabbits bars – they are what granola bars should taste like. My faves were the Haught Diggity Date and the Chocolate Cherry one. I love the titles too :D

Of course the cinnamon raisin swirl bread was awesoeme!!!

p.s. I’m in FL right now, BUT I’m flying to back to Richmond for exams on Sunday. I am going to make time to see you and Matilda can meet Olive too :) She’s such a big fur ball right now. I hope all is well. Is it really suppose to snow??

Hi! Like Kath mentioned, we just recently moved to a new production facility, so we’re still working out some kinks. Unfortunately, our most recent batch did not come out as intended, but I’ll put you on my list for our next batch of samples!

Have a great weekend,

I did the same thing yesterday with an Endangered Species candy bar that my sister gave me. I have no self control when it comes to chocolate…especially when I am stuck at my desk and bored. It was delicious and I enjoyed it so now I am just moving on with my life. It is just a candy bar…it isn’t going to kill me.

AHHH I work at The Fresh Market and help package those things. For some oddly reason I can’t consume them. However, the honey sesame sticks – YUM!

Brittany, I just found your blog. Its beautiful. Your food choices are great. Never worry or regret some mindless eating. Its healthy for your body, mind and soul to do things like that every now and then , even if it is unconsciously done :) . What a great blog, I started a new one but struggle to find my right fit with what I want to write, photograph, etc. Struggle between being too personal or not. Have a nice weekend.

I think the holiday season is always really stressful. Just a lot of commitments. I LOVE cinnamon swirl bread and PB&J it’s a delicious combo. I ate half a bag of pretzels and 2 cupcakes. So your better then me ;) I want to try that 18 Rabbits bars I’ve been trying to find a good replacement for my beloved Luna bars.

My weekend involves (hopefully a concert) and another run if my 12 mile run soreness ever wears off.
