Merry Merry Christmas

by Eating Bird Food on December 25, 2009

Isaac, Olive, and I have been on a world wind tour over the past few days traveling to see family for the holidays. We stayed at my Dad’s place on Wednesday night after visiting my Uncle at the hospital and then traveled to visit the rest of my family. We stopped for a quick lunch at Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

I ordered my favorite- the Health Nut- Blueberries, Mango, Banana, Almonds, and Whey or Soy protein. I ordered it with whey protein and NO Turbinado. Did you know that they put a 1/4 cup of turbinado sugar in this smoothie if you don’t request otherwise? It’s just crazy to me because the fruits are already so sweet- no extra sugar is even needed! Twas filling and delicious, so much so I’ve recreated it before.

Last year I changed up my standard family Christmas traditions and this year was no different. Isaac and did lots of visiting and then headed home to spend Christmas eve night at home together. Before we headed home we stopped to grab a bite for dinner. There weren’t many restaurants open but luckily we saw the red open light glaring in the GURU Indian restaurant window.

I ordered the Baigan Bharta, a spicy Indian eggplant curry dish.

Basmati rice.

And roti- made with whole wheat flour. It seemed baked rather than fried and had no oil on it whatsoever. I was so pleased with the way it was made!

This was probably the best Indian food we’ve ever had. We even sent compliments to the chef! I told Isaac that Indian food on Christmas eve has to be a new tradition. I’m already excited for next year! :)

I’m interested to know, what are your Christmas/Christmas eve traditions? Do you still continue doing them or have your changed your traditions after getting older?

Last but not least, Merry Christmas to you and yours! I hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable day with family and friends!

Olive was so pooped from visiting all day she was happily laying on her back (something she never does) and letting me make her dance for my Nanny and Mom.

we always get Asian takeout for Christmas dinner (well it is lunch- the biggest meal of the day). This year was Thai, even though I had hoped Indian!! LOOKS DELISH!

happy holidays!

Glad you two had a great Christmas Eve. Traditions definitely change as I get older. This year, I don’t think one thing was the same! But you’ve gotta roll with the punches!

Merry Xmas girl, I hope you had a wonderful celebration! Our Christmas Eve tradition is to take part in Wigilia, a Polish Christmas Eve supper in which we serve 7 dishes and no meat (seafood however)… we have traditional pierogi (which I made from scratch this year!), sauerkraut, seafood, mushrooms and it is one of my fave meals each year :) Plus lots of present opening, we normally do most of that XMas Ever versus XMas day… don’t know why but it’s just how things have turned out in recent years! No complaints here ;)
