Leaving on a Jet Plane, Super Energized by Maca
I’m travel yet again, but this time for work and to Chi-town. I’m excited as I’ve never been there before and because on Friday evening I’m taking a train to Milwalkuee and I’ll be staying with a best friend for the remainder of the weekend!! In preparation for leaving this morning I started planning early. I had a hair cut appointment on Wednesday night and I wasn’t finished packing so I knew I needed to workout in the morning or else I wouldn’t be able to fit it in. I went to bed early on Tuesday, woke up early on Wednesday and got in a good sweat sess before work. Nothing too crazy, just some ellipticaling and legs. Since I had limited time after showering and what not I decided to forego stove top oats and make a batch of instant- topped with banana, homemade pumpkin butter, and better n pb.

It wasn’t stove-top by any means but still tasty and quite filling.
So after work I got the hair cut, made dinner with Isaac, and finished my packing. Here’s my snack stash

An apple, a banana, 2 HUGE prunes, a packet of regular oats and some bars. I think these should last me the weekend.
This morning I woke up early and took Olive for a little walk, came home and did some yoga (vinyasas), some abs, and a bit of stretching. I wanted to move a bit before traveling, but I’m hoping to make it to the hotel gym at some point this afternoon/evening as well.
I had plenty of time before leaving for the airport so I made a BIG bowl of stove top oats!!

Oatmeal/Oat bran, Stevia, Maca Bowl
- 1/4 cup old fashion oatmeal
- 1/4 oat bran
- 1/2 banana, thinly sliced
- 1 cup water
- 3 drops of SweetLeaf Stevia

- Cinnamon, to taste
- 1- 2 tsp. Maca powder (I used Navitas Naturals)
Put all the ingredients expect the maca powder into a saucepan on med-high heat. Once the mixture starts to boil turn down the heat to med. Cook for about 5 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed and your oats have thickened up. Turn the heat off and stir in the maca powder, put the oats in to a bowl and top with your favorite toppings. My favorites are nut butters, pumpkin butter, coconut, or granola, Enjoy!
**If you’re interested in finding out more about the superfood, maca, and it’s nutritional benefits you can read my old post about it here or Pimp my Protein Shake’s post about it here.
I’m hoping the maca powder will prove to be quite powerful today and I have long lasting energy to get me through traveling and a busy conference reception for work tonight… I’ll let you know how it goes!

I ♥ Maca! The pumpkin butter looks sinful. I bet pumpkin butter mixed with PB or almond butter would be heavenly too!

Different people have different opinions on how maca tastes. Personally I don’t eat it plain because I don’t love the flavor alone- it has a bitter sweetness if that makes any sense. Although I’ve heard some people suggest it gives a malted flavor to things or even butterscotch. Hope this helps!

I use SweetLeaf stevia too! (have I mentioned that already?) In fact, I just used their powder in some peanut butter cookies I baked today! I like to experient with their liquid flavors as well!
Anyway, have a great holiday in Chicago! Don’t freeze too much!
