Halloween Throughout the Years

by Eating Bird Food on October 14, 2009

Halloween is growing near. This year, per the usual, Halloween is very close and I still have no idea what I should dress up as. I wanted to get some ideas from you all so I thought it would be fun to show you guys what I have dressed up as in the past.

Freshman year of college:

I went to JMU to celebrate Halloween with my bff from highschool. I didn’t have a costume- we had searched all day at local thrift stores, however I couldn’t find anything. So I ended up throwing together some pieces (from generous girls on Jessica’s dorm room hall) and deeming myself an 80′s girl.

Sophomore year I was a black cat.

I was dating an ex-boyfriend at the time and he was having a Halloween party. Isaac ended up being invited to the party by my roommate. It was the first time I had really hung out with him, however I had seen him before on campus and thought he was super cute. I basically flirted with him all night, however like I said, I had a boyfriend so Isaac and I didn’t start dating until a few months later. (That’s a whole other story!)

Junior year I was a Hooter’s girl. I went to the local Hooters and bought a THE shirt, got some orange super short workout shorts from Dicks (which I still have, but never wear), a DD padded bra, some scrunchy white socks, panty hose and a pair of white sneaks.

This year the party was hosted at Isaac’s house and we were official. Please don’t ask what Isaac was. I wanted him to be a white trash guy so we could do a couple costume – he said no and simply threw on a suit jacket, a stupid hat and glasses and said he was “On his way to an Elton John concert. p.s. Check out how long Isaac’s hair was… crazy huh?

Senior year we all went out to DC and I was a 70′s love child/ Nicole Richie. As you can probably tell I’m not very proactive when it comes to Halloween costumes. This was one of those years that I just threw together random stuff at the last minute and then thought of something to call myself.

Isaac was Trojan Man (shared pleasure) and he actually ended up winning the costume contest they were holding that night.

And two years ago (while I was living in Athens, GA) I went as a sexy nurse. My friend in the picture with me (Hey Bean!) was part of a group costume- Gang Green!

Love the dumb and dumber poster behind us. Symbolism… I think not. :)

The nurses dress was really long so I had pinned it up. It looks as though I should never hem my own clothes considering it’s not even whatsoever.

And, last year and I actually didn’t dress up. Isaac and I went back to my hometown (the east coast OC) for the Montpellier Hunt Races. We stayed the night with my Dad and helped him hand out candy to the cute kiddos but didn’t dress up ourselves.

So I leave you with my predicament- what should I be this year? Any ideas? What are you dressing up as?

Anyone want to do a costume trade? I still have the nurse’s dress.

I love this! Thanks for sharing. I agree with Lizzy, be a cupcake! You’re adorable and would look lovely as a cupcake.

My boyfriend and I are going as the British comedy duo The Mighty Boosh. I’m going to be Vince!

Oh JMU Halloweens… I remember (well, not techinically haha) many of those nights throughout my 4 years there! I LOVE the cat costume, so cute :) I think I’m going to be a sexy 50′s housewife this year.. want to pick up a super cute apron (dual purpose costume?) and think I may head to Anthropologie bc they have some super cute ones there! This is the first halloween in a while that I am excited to dress up, I usually don’t get to into it for whatever reason :/ Good luck finding yours too, looks like you have been creative throughout the years so I know you will find something fab!

Aw I love your costumes!! I haven’t dressed up in years – we do for work but that doesn’t count! Can’t wait to see what you pick this year :)

I’m in the same boat! I can’t come up with anything to beat last year; I was a troll doll. This means I traipsed around D.C. in a nude unitard with a gem on my belly and crazy purple hair. It was amusing haha

I didn’t know you were from OC! I grew up like 2 counties over, lol :) Good to see some fabulous bloggers representing from that area!

I, too, went to JMU and had many a fun Halloween there :) This year, I’m running a 5K on Halloween, so I’ll be dressing up for it……probably as Miley Cyrus :)

For your costume, I think you should definitely do something food related….maybe leafy greens or something else totally random!

Love the Nicole Richie sunglasses! I have no clue what I want to be for Halloween either.

SO CUTE!

as for this year- i am in the same boat-
only I’m running a “dress up” 5K and am trying to keep this in mind while I plan. Everyone keeps suggesting a super hero because it would be pretty cool to run with a cape.

however, knowing my clumsy self, i would probably end up tangled in it and strangling at some point.

i digress…

I wish I could figure out what to have my son dress up as. He says he either wants to be Max from “Where the Wild Things Are” or a cat. Really, the costumes are pretty close, so if he changes his mind, he’s three after all, it will be ok. I love all of your cute Halloween outfits.

Haha, I liked seeing Farifax on the Hooters shirt, it’s where my grandparents live! Good luck with this year’s costume, I have to do some thinking myself.

You are so creative! haha – I love the hooter girl.

My favorite costume was a pirate my junior year of college. It was so fun – I carried a sword around (plastic) the whole night.

The cat costume is adorable!!! I want to hear the story with you and Isaac!

I think a cupcake would be super cute! You look like a doll so anything would work! I’m not sure what I want to be either – sarahs troll doll costume sounds hilarious though!!

I love the costumes! I haven’t really dressed up in a long while! I went as a rock star at one point in college, but haven’t really dressed up for halloween since :-) I may go as Minnie Mouse this year, but we will see!

Hahahaha oh my god! Those are so cute! The one of you as a cat is cute CUTE! I think you should be some totally un-PC cultural stereotype :)

Awww…. what a fun little Halloween custom recap. You should be a “twitter bird”, you are “eating bird food” afterall.

LOL – I loved this post!! I still don’t know what I’m going to be and/or if I’m going to dress up. I definitely want to, though! I’m guessing the most popular costume this year will be a vampire :)
