Saturday Night Scrabble

by Eating Bird Food on September 27, 2009

We had quite the dreary Saturday here with a ton of rain. Isaac and I decided to hang low for most of the day and after we had enough lounging around the house we decided to drop by Ellwood’s Coffee Shop, a local and eco-friendly spot in our neighborhood.

They serve the normal coffee shop fare including speciality drinks, sandwiches, vegan baked goods, and breakfast, but also have beer and wine.

It always has such a nice atmosphere, but it was looking particularly nice last night as it was all spruced up for the fall season. The shelf in the photo below is a community book shelf  where you can take a book or bring a book whenever you so desire. Such a neat idea!

Isaac and I settled for cups o joe and a game of Scrabble. A clover brewed coffee for him and a non-fat cappuccino and a cup of water for her. One of the great things about this coffee shop is that they have all natural sweeteners- pure cane syrup, agave, and stevia at the add-ins bar – no splenda or sweetn’ low in sight.

We listened to the live jazz music going on at the shop and played one round.

I was the winner- oh yea! I actually think Scrabble is one game Isaac has never beat me at. That’s why I like to play. :)

We went to bed super late. We wanted to stay up and watch SNL because one of Isaac’s best friends is dating Jenny Slate, one of the new additions to the show. Let’s just say it was interesting because she accidently said the f word in her first ever skit on the show. Guess is really is LIVE! It was all over twitter and within minutes someone had already posted a youtube video. It was a total accident and you can tell from her face afterwards that she knew what she had done, but here’s to hoping that she doesn’t get into too much trouble and gets to stay on the show!

In other news my blog has been updated with a new header and color scheme. If you’re reading from your reader, please click over and check out the new look. Thanks so much to the infamous Zesty for creating the new header for me. I absolutely love it.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.

OBSESSED with scrabble. When I worked at a summer camp, we started a program area where we taught all the kids how to play scrabble and had huge competitions. Great great game :)

That coffee shop looks adorable! I love the games and books. Seriously, Richmond has some of the coolest stuff!

I saw your Tweet about SNL. Poor girl. She definitely knew, but I personally thought it made it more real.

I love snacking :D I have a morning snack and an afternoon, and something something after dinner. I guess it’s a lot, but my breakfast never holds me long enough for lunch, and I love dessert after dinner. The key is to listening your body, both physically and mentally.

Ohhhh, I hope she didn’t/doesn’t get in trouble for dropping the “f-bomb”, as I think it was the best part of the show. That was a horrible SNL, I hope it gets better!!!

Cute coffee shop, what a nice vibe!!!

The cafe has agave AND stevia?? That is so adorable, I wish starbucks followed in those steps!

And that SNL story is hilarious. I’m sure she’ll stay on the show, she just bought them some extra media attention!!

I was gonna go there on Friday with my dad! But I opted to stay in and watch 2 Days in Paris. I had no idea they had Scrabble!!! Seriously, that place is so cozy :D Perfect for a dreary day. I’m sure she’ll stay on the show. The F-bomb just meant more publicity, and that’s a good thing, right? hehe

Hi! I love your new header, so clean, fresh and purdy! That coffee shop looks like such fun. I love how you can just lounge around. We have a place like that here in Vegas called Espresso, but it’s not nearly as cute as yours!
I’m hoping to get my site going next month and zesty said he would help out, that’s just so nice :)

I was actually watching that SNL, and normally I don’t watch the show. I thought it was kinda funny. And really, it’s on so late at night, it shouldn’t be as big a deal as if it was in prime time.
