I think this bowl of oats might just be the epitome of Eating Bird Food. 3 things I LOVE – oatmeal, trial mix, and nut butter- isn’t it just perfect?

It’s the traditional oatmeal and oatbran combo (1/4 cup each) cooked on the stove with 1/2 of a banana stirred in and a few sprinkles of cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. Topped with my homemade trail mix and a blob of better n pb. One of the best bowls of oats I’ve had in long time, plus It just screams fall to me for some reason. I think it’s the pumpkin pie spice and the colors of the trail mix.
I also baked some “out of the box” Archer Farms pumpkin monkey bread for Isaac. The box had been taking up way too much space in our cabinet for way too long. It turned out quite nicely if I do so say so myself.

From sweet to savory.
I recently went to my new favorite restaurant in Richmond, Balliceaux (pronounced Baliso). And… I think I’m in love. Balliceaux is a new seasonal, farm to table, locally sourced dining establishment right down the street from Isaac and I. We went for the Sunday Supper with Isaac’s parents so the menu was a little different than the usual dinner menu, but I was stoked because 1. they had a butter lettuce salad with figs and 2. they had a raw lasgane. Who knew that there was a restaurant in Richmond with at least one raw entree besides salad!?! Not I!
I apologize for the lack of decent photography- the lighting was very dim, which was awesome for the ambiance but awful for photos. I loved the renovated, anthropologie decor- so much so I wish I could have taken my own pictures, but like I mentioned, it was dark in there so here’s a gallery of interior photos that a photographer (whose better than me) took, if you’re at all interested.
Isaac’s mom and I shared the butter lettuce salad with shaved brussel sprouts, pickled shallots, figs, and a garden dill vinaigrette.

And the raw vegetable lasagne, which was made with Victory Farms (a local Richmond Farm) available produce.

Both the salad and the lasagne were delicious and are the main reasons I loved this place, besides the decor, the french press coffee, and the amazingly unique cocktail menu.
The table also ordered fish served on top of a panzanella. Which ended up being just that- a whole fish!

Creepy. I know.
Needless to day, if you’re in Richmond you must, must try out Balliceaux. It’s simply awesome! And if you weren’t already thinking of visiting Richmond just for Balliceaux, maybe you should check out this hilarious rap video.
I think I need to leave the computer now as I’ve been on it since I got home from work….aye aye aye
