Greenery

by eatingbirdfood on April 1, 2009

I got up this morning craving oats! After seeing Heather eat bowl after bowl of green oats I knew I needed to try this little concoction. I decided to try the blended grain technique in the VitaMix as well, considering I don’t really think there is a better way to get the spinach fully blended.

Here is my bowl of green goodness oats:

The greenery was topped with a sample sized portion of PB2!

my thoughts:

The blended oat technique is totally on par. Just when you thought oat bran couldn’t get creamer, the VitaMix goes and proves you wrong! I loved, loved, loved the creaminess. The only thing I did not love is all the extra dishes to wash. We don’t have a dishwasher people!! I’m lying- we actually have two, Sir Isaac and Madam Brittany.  So yea, I had a sink full of dishes and they were all from me and my breakfast. So I do love the blended grains, but I might have to save them for weekends.

Besides the color of the oats- I really didn’t notice the spinach that much. I guess if I didn’t eat lots of green veggies throughout the day, hiding blending spinach in my oatmeal might be something I would consider more often, however I think I’ll stick to having it for other meals or for breakfast in omeletes. Although, I still need to try making my own green smoothie and that might end up being a spinach for breakfast type of thing. That shall happen soon!

As for the PB2, you must wait for my review, I have a date with the gym that is way overdue.

I’m thinking that I should probably become a rapper! :)

Spinach oats eh? What else did you put in with it? I love the colour it turns though, so it’s tempting to try it out myself :D And that’s why I love my immersion blender too – hardly any extra dishes to do when I want to blend some stuff.

I agree about the spinach…I eat so much green veggies already, I might as well be a purist with my oats!

Gotta say, the spinach makes the oats look so “Exotic.” I’ll have to try it sometime!

Not for me, I gotta say. Spinach goes into lots of what I eat, but not in my morning cereal/oats!

Crazy people. ;)

Yay! The green oats are so good! Try them with avocado and you will not be disappointed! I totally hear you on the dishes, though. I treated myself to a hand blender right before spring break (you know, because I worked so hard through finals and totally needed it, right?) to solve the problem. Now I just rinse it and it’s ready for the next batch!

You definitely have a future as a rap star ;)
