Turkish Delight

by eatingbirdfood on March 24, 2009

I woke up this morning and joined Jill for the SHRED once again. My knees were feeling better so I decided to start my day off right- I’m still on level 1, using my cans (only now it’s manwich and black beans) It felt good!

After working it I started making oats for breakfast. I only got as far as putting the 1/4 cup of oat bran and 1/4 cup of oatmeal in the pot when I decided I was running behind on time so I should just stick with cereal. That’s what I did: Into my bowl went 1 cup kashi go lean, 2 sliced strawberries, USAM, and 1/2 scoop Designer Whey French Vanilla Protein Powder. If you are interested in trying the Designer Whey brand, check out their website as they have a printable coupon for $2.00 off.

I know a couple people were interested in how I liked the the French Vanilla PP. Unfortunately I haven’t tried it plain in water yet – I actually haven’t really been doing that lately, but in the cereal I couldn’t taste it the way I usually taste the 1/2 scoop of Designer Whey chocolate. It probably has something to do with the almond milk I used being vanilla as well. The powder dissolved in the milky cereal well and I didn’t taste any strange aftertaste. Thumbs up.

And, now I have my oats waiting in the pot for tomorrow.

I came home for lunch and whipped up a simple but stellar salad:

Spring mix, broccoli slaw, tomatoes, and green peps with a little TJ’s Goddess dressing.

The highlight of lunch was this plate of Mediterranean eats courtesy of Isaac.

He brought home some little presents for me from the Mediterranean deli yesterday. One was Grilled eggplant in a tomato sauce and a container of dried Turkish figs and Medjool Dates. He’s a keeper!

I’m not 100% sure what the eggplant dish is called but it is truly wonderful. The eggplant is cooked to perfection and the sauce has a sweet tomato flavor. If anyone knows what this dish is call I would love to know… not knowing is screwing with my daily plate. I said that same thing to Isaac today and he started laughing. Again, he is a keeper!

Here are the Dried Turkish Figs and Medjool Dates:

These little delights are delicious!! Fresh, Dried fruit may seem like an oxymoron, however I have a feeling freshness is the reason the Mediterranean Deli’s dried fruit is much better than the regular grocery stores bulk bins.

Hope everyone is having a lovely week!

Oooh thanks for the link to that coupon! I may need to check that out once I’m done commenting ;) I like your idea of putting it in milk with cereal – I’ve never tried that before!

I’ve never tried Turkish figs before but have seen them all over the blog world. I may need to give them a try. Although I read on someone’s blog that they get bugs in them sometimes?!!

Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog, Brittany. You really made my day and I’m glad you’re excited about the possible book club!

Oh, Issac is DEFINITELY a keeper.

But are you a sharer? Or does Issac have a brother who would also bring home great food? :)

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I replied to your comment in the comments but I don’t know if you get a notification of that so I figured I’d stop by here again and answer your question. I don’t mind you asking at all and I wasn’t offended, here’s my answer:

For me, eating 1 000 kcal a day isn’t limiting. Usually I barely make it to 1 000 kcal (not counting the days I binge). So, this is me trying to increase my calorie intake by eating at least 1 000 kcal. I know it sounds weird but it’s hard for me to tell myself it’s okay to eat 1 000 kcal or more a day. I don’t know how many calories I should be eating… as you may have seen on my “about me” page I’ve had issues with an ED so most of the reason why I started my blog is to try to gain “normal” eating habits and not restrict or binge. I’m at a normal weight now, I gained weight over the past year in a bad way (by binging) which has left my eating habits completely haywire. I could benefit from loosing a little even, or at least toning up, which is what I am trying to do. So I am in no need of eating too many calories but at the same time I know eating too little calories won’t help me loose weight or make me feel good.

Sorry about the long rambling answer… oh, and the raisin carrot bread is SO good! More on that on my blog soon! :)

Ugh, I could seriously eat all that mediterranean food every day of my life. I have serious weaknesses for figs, dates and eggplant. Could be worse, I guess!

i wouldn’t have thought to use protein powder with cereal & milk. we have some brown rice & pea protein powder that i like – i may have to try this with a little rice milk & cereal! mmmmmm!

your salad looks great – it’s so colorful & fresh! and your plate of mediterranean of yummies is making me drool! that’s so sweet of Isaac! awwwww! i plug all my foods into sparkpeople and find it a little frustrating when there’s something i’m enjoying and i’m not too sure what it is, or when sparkpeople doesn’t have information on what i’m eating. argh!

the figs & dates look delicious, too! oh-so yummy, fo ‘sho!

Issac most certainly knows what’s up. :)
I hope the daily plate doesn’t get obsessive. Seriously, watch out.
