Last weekend we went to none other than Trader Joe’s (as much as I talk about them I should totally be their spokes person) and among other delicious things, I also bought OAT BRAN. I had seen it on several blogs and knew I wanted to try it, but this post by Heather got me particularly interested.
This morning I cooked the oat bran the exact same way I cook my normal oats- with 1/2 cup of USAM and 1/2 a banana and cinnamon. I added in 1 tablespoon of flax and some pecan pumpkin butter on top. I loved the dense, creamy texture of the oat bran and it was a good change from normal oats. I will defnietly be switching between both from now on out. I was hestient to try it because other hot cereals (i.e. qunioa flakes) haven’t lived up to oatmeal’s loviness. But, I’m really glad I tried it because it does have a better nutritional profile than oats and tastes just as delicious.
Mid morning I had string cheese and for lunch I walked home from work and fixed up a large salad: lettuce, broccoli slaw, broccoli, avocado, and TJ’s goddess dressing.
Before eating the salad I finshed off the last of this bag of chips with the Spicy Black Bean Dip.
The dip is really good and about as spicy as mild/medium salsa- so it won’t blow you away.
So I was as boring as possible today and had the exact same thing I had for lunch for dinner as well. I guess just because it was quick?? I’m not really sure: we have other food, I had had an afternoon snack (banana and peanuts) and I had plenty of time to cook something up but when I came in the door I went straight for more chips (regular tortilla chips, as I had eaten all the baked ones at lunch) and bean dip, which basically turned into me eating enough to decide they were going to have to be dinner. Then I decided I needed something healthy to balance it out and made the salad. Oh and then I also had a small bowl of kashi go lean cereal with USAM.
I kind of hate it when that happens, but oh well… it was good and did I mention quick? I was done with dinner and snack before 6:30PM.
I’m going to head to the gym later this evening to see if it’s less crowded than it usually is right after work… we shall see.

Yay! I now know that I can totally handle oat bran
What with our similar taste in pumpkin oatmeal and all…if you like it, I’ll like it! That’s my test, haha. I saw that post on Heather’s blog, too and it really got me thinking that I need to invest in some oat bran once I run out of old-fashioned. But I’ll probably do it even sooner because I am impatient like that.
I really like the looks of that bean dip!
