I want new dishes
I’m not sure why I’m just now realizing it, but I think I need some new dishes. We are still using the ones Isaac’s mom let him bring to college. I guess we just never really thought about it, but after taking tons of food photos, I’m thinking I really need some more photogenic plates. (hint hint Isaac- I have a b-day coming up!)
In other administrative news- I updated the about me page! I hoped to add more pictures, but for some reason I couldn’t find many on my computer from 2003 and earlier. I actually think the reason might be because I didn’t have a digital camera then… oh well.
Even though it was freezing this morning, with ice coming down and all, I was still craving cold cereal. I had a concoction of Kashi Go Lean, Nature Path’s O’s, a few raisins and unsweetened vanilla almond milk:

I came home in the icy mess for lunch. I was so tempted just to quickly go to Subway, but decided I should save my money and eat the stuff I just recently bought at the grocery. I ended up making a quick salad, with romaine, broccoli, sugar snap peas, red-peppers, and sauerkraut.

And left over Annie’s mac and cheese shells with tuna mixed in. I hadn’t had Annie’s mac and cheese before and it was pretty good. I probably wont buy it that often because mac and cheese isn’t something I crave very often, but mixed with the tuna it was pretty tasty.

AND, I finally got my hands on one of these bars when I went to Whole Foods this past weekend!! The White Chocolate Macadamia Nut bar – I loved this thing.. and this is saying something because I don’t even like White Chocolate. I ate half for an after lunch snack and then ate the other half before going to the gym this evening. So good, I will definitely be buying it again.

And here is my small afternoon snack:

Just kidding!! Isaac made what he likes to call a Triple Decker Delight- to be funny he took a picture of it so I would see it when I uploaded my photos to post tonight. I thought I would share it just in case anyone wants to recreate this monster of a sandwich. He used 3 pieces of toasted bread, hummus, spinach, 2 eggs, pepper-jack cheese, dijon mustard, sugar snap peas, and grape tomatoes. This was his after school snack :)
Last but not least after I hit up the gym for a little cardio action, I came home and made some Garlic- Teriyaki Tempeh with broccoli. It was really good, and extremely filling. I’ll add the recipe to the recipe section a.s.a.p!

Tonight I’ve been trying to get Olive to recognize me as the Pack Leader. I’ve been researching online and practicing with her. But she still won’t come when I call her.
Any dogs owners have any tips on how to get puppies to listen?

I can’t wait for the tempeh recipe.
All my dog advice comes from the Dog Wisperer and it seems like you have that covered.

Mac & cheese + tuna – comfort food goodness! And I’m interested to see that tempeh recipes. I haven’t tried the stuff myself, but I love me some broccoli, so it would be an easy way to try it out
And I have no dog training tips. I have a cat, and I can’t even train her to not be crazy!

hmmmm Im trying to think back with my bullmastiff
all that IMMEDIATELY comes to mind is NEVER EVER let your puppy go in the house/through a door first.
thats KEY in establishing dominance

Love the updated “about me” page!! And hey, I love your dishes
For puppies = it takes time and patience. Just hang in there and love little Olive

WCMN CLIF!!!! Hooray
Haha – love Issac’s after school snack!
For Olive: It just takes a lot of time and reinforcement. My Boston is a little brat and still won’t come when I call her (she’s almost 5 years old now) but I think that’s because I always just picked her up as a puppy when I needed to get her. My lab we trained with treats, positive reinforcement (dogs, especially small ones, are really sensitive to the tone of your voice), and time. Good luck!! She’ll get it eventually

Ugh – getting the dog trained to recognize you are the “pack leader” is the most difficult thing ever (at least it was for me and Lando) – no tips, other than be strong – and don’t give into their cuteness until they do what you are asking them.
It sucks because it sounds harsh, but that’s honestly what works. I picked Lando up all the time, and hugged and kissed her all day every day when we first got her – and now she walks all over me!

Since writing a food blog, I have become obsessed with pretty bowls and plate. I have a major collection going on. I like to buy singles of things I really like at places like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

mmmm how is it that your “bird food” looks absolutely delicious? What a great blog you have!!

I’m so glad you like the WCMN Clif bar!! It seems like it’s really a hit with everyone, so good call, Clif.
I am truly obsessed with new bowls and plates. I always look for deals and buy on sale – I’m starting to overflow my cabinets, though, so I’ve gotta stop soon!
I loooove Annie’s Mac! And I still need to try tempeh!
Good luck training Olive

How old is your puppy? It will take a little while for them to respond to their names, using small rewards (treats) along with using their names and repetition is the best bet. A dog always respects boundaries and discipline, so put your foot down when necessary and I know sometimes that isn’t easy. Don’t give up and try to stay calm and relaxed, if you give off that vibe then the dog is sure to follow.
I have the cutest rat terrier and it is hard not to give in and be his “mommy” but I remember that he is happier as a dog, not a child.
