Happy New Year Ladies and Gents! I hope everyone had a great 2008. I can’t believe I have been posting on Eating Bird Food since March 2008, time flies. I remember when I first started reading food blogs – it all started with EatLikeMe and KathEats. After reading for a bit I knew I wanted to be part of the food blogging phenomon0n so I decided to start my own. And, I am so glad that I did. Being part of this community is one of the most memorable experiences of 08 for me- it has taught me so much, as well as, inspired me to eat better, work out more, and experiment in the kitchen. Plus I love my readers and other blog writers- I’ve “met” so many great people. Three cheers for food blogging!
Last night we went to a Wine and Dine til 2009 party at our friends’ house. Before leaving I wanted a eat a little something since I knew I would be in for a night of drinking. I had an Amy’s Texas burger on an ezekiel sprouted grain muff with some ketchup and onions. The onions were too strong so I had to take them off. On the side I had a small salad with goddess dressing.

There was plenty of food and drinks to be had at the party. Here’s the food spread:

I stayed near the veggie plate and had quite a few dipped in dressing and also had a few chips with salsa.

Later on I found out that someone had brought homemade chex mix!!! I’ve been hooked on homemade chex mix ever since my college roommate’s Mom would make it and send her big zip lock bags full for holidays. It’s so much better than the premade junk at the store. So of course since I don’t get the homemade stuff very often I was excited and I think I had 1-3 cups full. I can’t really remember, at this point I had drank some wine, and two of my new favorite spin on the White Russian cocktail- espresso vodka mixed with kahlua and milk.. so so so good. The only problem is that you keep drinking them, thinking there isn’t much alcohol in them, however it catches up with you!!! I speak from experience, considering that is what happened last night…
Here’s a pic of me and friend in the “tent room” -a room that was dimly lit with tapestries hanging from the ceiling. (
I had went over the night before an helped decorate.)

To ring in the new year I had a glass of champagne and glass of Merry Christmas, Happy New Year beer in a ginormous bottle. I promise I didn’t not drink that entire bottle alone.

Needless to say we slept in this morning, but overall I wasn’t feeling poorly once I got up – I even made it to the gym later in the evening. We went out to brunch after waking but I forgot my camera
I pretty much snacked a bit for lunch and then had a dinner that was almost identical to last night’s dinner.. not very exciting. But what is exciting is that my Dad came to visit and I made him Carrot Cake – his fav.- to celebrate his birthday!!! It’s seriously the best carrot cake I have ever eaten, but my Dad said that it tied with my Mom’s version- I’ll take that – she’s a good cook. I’m very sleepy so I’m off to bed for the night, but I promise I’ll post the recipe tomorrow!

Happy 2009 all!
