I forgot to mention that this beach house I am at is no ordinary beach house. Isaac and I were staying with a couple who are family friend’s of Isaac’s fam and the male owner of the beach house is an amazing cook. I look forward to his dinners every night. The first night was one of my favorite entrees- crab cakes, but unfortunately I didn’t get a picture. Last night dinner was Tile fish (a white fish) with cranberry and almond Israeli cous cous and roasted green beans smothered in olive oil and garlic. I had never had Israeli cous cous – it seems kind of like little circles were cut out of fettuccine noddles to make it. Definitely more pastaish than the cous cous I am used to, but still delicious.

After dinner I worked on a couple crafty projects – all the women at the beach house are craft gurus and totally into beading, knitting, resining… if it’s crafty, they’ve tried it. I like to think that I am crafty – I have knitted one semi-wearable scarf and a couple ipod holders, made my fair share of hemp necklaces and even had a friendship bracelet business as a child. So when surrounded by other crafters I get into the craft stuff as well. Here is a picture of two things I made. A decorative dragonfly made of wire and beads and a pair of earrings. I am in love with the earrings… I think they are so classy.

While being crafty, Isaac became bar tender and made some drinks. I had a White Russian and then ate a piece of a decadent chocolate truffle cake, which was probably the best chocolate cake I have ever eaten, and it was homemade by another excellent chef who was staying at the beach house. I feel like I have been eating everything sweet and sugary in sight since the holidays started and now my pants are feeling a little snug because of it. What better time to start getting back to healthy eating and exercising than for the new year. I haven’t come up with a specific new year resolution – I guess, don’t really do those. Do you all have any New Year resolutions?
Also, another question… I read the book Skinny Bitch on the 3 hour car drive to and fro. I’m not sure what to think about it. I thought it was really interesting and their humor/bluntness made me chuckle a couple times. It’s definitely promoting Veganism, and the authors’ reasoning behind not eating meat and diary do interest me and has my brian working, but I still can’t decide if Veganism would really be for me. Has anyone else read it? What do you all think about it?

I’ve read it, and it’s seriously enough to make me want to go full on vegatron!
Actually I read lots of other books too and that has helped. Want to join me?
Love your inner crafter!
Gorgeous jewelry!! I love dangles and sparkles
I couldn’t really make it through the skinny bitch book…their bluntness is a little too harsh for me, and I think I discounted them because they’re not RD’s or medical experts, but I also like meat..sooo
My friend went vegan after the book but eventually came back to veg/pescatarian b/c she was lacking protein and her hormones went kind of wacko from too much soy! haha, random personal story though, enjoy your vacay!
I have read the book, but for some reason, I was hoping for them to elaborate more on the animal cruelty, rather than brush through it. Either way, it is a good read though.
And yes, I love the earrings. Very classy.
I loved SB. I read it almost a year ago right after I decided to go veg. I had never thought about trying veganism, but it got me thinking about dairy like I hadn’t thought about it before. I stopped drinking cow’s milk almost immediately. Goat cheese has been much harder
I think you have to take the book with a grain of salt, but the message and intent are good.
Love the jewelry!
GORRRRRGEOUS jewelry!! And score on a great cook in the beach house.
I actually DESPISE ‘Skinny Bitch’ – I don’t like the preachy attitude, language, and approach.
Nice craftiness! The earings are pretty and the dragonfly is so cute! I used to make thoe friendship bracelets, too.
The cous cous looks good! I’ve never had Israeli couscous before either.
I flipped through SB at the bookstore, but I don’t want to be told that sugar and white flour is the devil. I already know that and choose to ignore it! I’ve never tried veganism because it seems too restrictive for me.
mmmmmmmmm i love crab cakes – so envious
although your other dinner looks yummy as well!
what beautiful jewelry!
I love that dragonfly! You are definitely crafty!
I have wanted to read Skinny Bitch for a while now. Just might have to head to the bookstore today!
Those earrings are gorgeous!! I’ve never tried Israeli couscous but I love the regular kind so I may have to buy it!
Wow, that jewelry is gorgeous! You are quite talented! I’ve had many jewelry projects in my lifetime, but rarely finish them.
And yay for yummy meals! I love when there’s someone else who is passionate about cooking and will make food for you
I read Skinny Bitch, and appreciated their bluntness. While I don’t think I could ever not eat some type of meat, it’s always interesting to read other perspectives.
I am addicted to dragonflies! I love the one you created! It is beautiful!
I really liked the book. I actually decided recently that I’m going to be more of a strict vegetarian… and I’m even trying to cut out seafood. Reading that book makes me want to be vegan though. And it’s definitely good for motivation. I liked how they were so brutal and straightforward in their descriptions. It makes you think about what you’re doing.
Erin – I seriously would like to try to go Vegan for like a month to see if I could maintain it as a lifestyle… you wanna do it?
Megan- Thank you!
Sharon – I thought the animal cruelty part was descriptive. It made me have goosebumps.
Maggie- If I do not go vegan I would like to cut out seafood as well… we shall see what I end up doing.
