Camping was so fun. We didn’t do the whole hike to a spot, pitch your tent, really roughing it type of camping – I have to admit having a heated bathroom 100 yards away wasn’t a bad thing when it was 36 degrees outside.
For dinner I brought a veggie burger to throw on the fire, only I think the fire was a little too hot or I just wasn’t paying enough attention but my burger came out burnt to a crisp. There was one eatable bite, which I scraped off and ate. Luckily I had also brought MARSHMALLOWS and a foil pack with chopped up squash with some canola oil and S&P. I think I ate about 5 or 6 toasted marshmallow. I like to let them get ooeey-gooeey to the point where they are drooping off the stick and then catch it on fire for a few seconds to get the torched effect. YUM!
Here’s a picture of Laurel and I by the fire- the camping trip was actually a surprise b-day party to celebrate one of her friend’s 24th birthday – hence the sign in the background
It was cold and the sun was shining ever so brightly in our tent so we ended up waking up quite early to head to DC for the ECO FESTIVAL. Before leaving Big Meadows we went to a local breakfast spot. It was tasty – I had steel cut oats with raisins and honey.
We took Skyline Drive some of the way to Fairfax. There were a couple nice lookout points. Here’s a shot from one of them.
We made it to the ECO FEST, which was fun. It made me really want to work for an organic food company, more than ever – too bad they are all in California, Colorado, or NYC. Larabar had a booth at the show and they were giving away sample size bars. I was excited because I still haven’t been able to find the Coconut Cream Pie flavor. I took two of the samples and ate one on the metro home. It was sooo good. By far my FAVORITE flavor! Now if only they would start selling them at stores near me.
We stopped in Georgetown for some quick shopping and a bite to eat on the metro ride back. We ate at Clyde’s - it was good, I wasn’t starving so I just had a salad. No picture either. :/
I hope everyone had a fab weekend.

What a fabulous weekend! I love roasted marshmallows! I still haven’t tried the coconut Larabar. I can’t find it! Love all the pics!

looks like a great time – now I want some marshmallows toasted over a fire!
So awesome
That kind of camping is the kind I like – heated bathrooms are the best!
Gorgeous. That’s the only way to camp.

Eco Fest sounds great!
Have you tried Ukrop’s for the coconut cream ones? I have seen them there on my side of town.
Wow – what pretty pictures!
I’m in love with that Larabar as well!
Your weekend sounds like so much fun! I would totally consider going camping if we had access to heated bathrooms
Otherwise, I’m not sure. Haha, I’m a wuss!
I do the same thing with my marshmallows – yum! And I’m so jealous that you got mini versions of the coconut Larabar. It’s my favorite, too! I think Larabar needs to start selling the smaller sizes!
Beadie – I’ve tried the Ukrop’s near me – Cary Town and haven’t had any luck. Maybe next time.
Eatingbender- I totally agree – Larabar needs to sell the mini size. They started doing it with the Clif bar’s so maybe they will.
