I found out today that it’s World Vegetarian Day. Had I known before today I would have planned a veggie potluck, but oh well I suppose I do that any day. Be sure to check out this site if you are at all interested.
This was a good lead into my next topic – protein. I’ve been a vegetarian for about 3 months now, besides eating fish and shellfish. I’ve worried that I don’t get enough protein and I’ve been seeing protein powder all over other blogs, specially Ms.Fitnessista, so I thought it was time to try the whole protein powder thing.
I remembered that For the Love of Oats made something she called Monkey Oats and I had wanted to try it so I put one whole scoop of this protein in my oats along with 1/2 a banana this morning.
It was blah. I didn’t like how thick the oats turned with the protein powder and the chocolate flavoring wasn’t great. I was totally missing the flavor of my almond milk oats with PB from yesterday. I finished the bowl, but I don’t think I will make it again. Although, afterward I thought that perhaps I used too much protein powder – maybe I should have only used 1/2 a scoop.
I still need to try the protein powder mixed with milk or water to make a drink, or mix it in with a smoothie. Hopefully I will enjoy it more that way. I hope I do like it because the nutritional facts are great, one scoop has 18 grams of protein for only 100 calories.
I went to Rosh Hashanah services again this morning. Today’s service lasted from 9:30-1:15. Quite a long service, but it ended up being good. I think it’s really interesting to learn about other religious views. By the time we got home from the Temple I was starving. I made a quick veggie burger and had some leftover veggies on the side. I had a Morningstar black bean burger on the Arnold Thin bread with hummus, ketchup, spinach and tomatoes, it was quite delicious. I ate fast and then rushed to work for the rest of the day.
I stayed late at work, came home and ate a boring dinner – salad and some more left over veggies. Then went to the gym.
Since others (aka Erin with her amazing kitchen) have been posting photos of where the cooking takes place I thought I would join in. There she is my little kitchen:
Our fridge is one thing that cracks me up because it’s old and is yellow and brown plastic on the inside, but it must have been nice back 25 years ago when it was purchased, because it has a logo that says “Princess Series” on the front. It’s comical really.

Awh, what an awesome kitchen! And mmmm, everything looks so delicious!
OMG that is an amazing kitchen; and you have a KITCHENAID!??!?!!??! i’m soooo jealous!
Ok so you have to use vanilla protein powder in your oatmeal, and only a half a scoop:) Promise it will be much better!
im sorry your oats didn’t go well, but i definitely only use a half scoop of the protein (and i like the choc better than vanilla so i guess its personally preference)… i tried a whole scoop and had the same reaction as you!
Ahh, so sorry about the oats
I make/drink protein shakes every single morning – here’s the brand of protein powder that I use (and highly recommend):

Cute kitchen!!
I left a comment, but it didn’t show up… it had a link to a website in it. Did you receive the comment??
Veggiegirl – For some reason it was in the spam folder (probably the link) – I de-spammed it! Thanks for the recommendation. Do you order that brand online or can you get it at Whole Foods or Vitamin Shopee?
Sorry you did not like the oats
I keep seeing all of the protein powders in whole food and I am so tempted but I don’t like protein bars and I fear they willl taste the same.
I wasn’t sure if you knew but a person who eats a vegetarian plus fish is called a pescetarian. I know it is just a word but when I was pescetarian and called myself vegetarian, I caught alot of slack for it.
Awesome kitchen!
I really need to try the Monkey Oats and that sandwich bread!
you have a nice kitchen too! Love it!
Nice kitchen!
I’m personally not a huge fan of protein in my oats (or yogurt for that matter). I would rather put the powder in the blender with a bit of water and ice and a banana and drink it as a 200 cal snack vs. an addition to a meal that I probably won’t even notice.
I see everyone with the Arnold thin bread. I’m going to have to look for it (once the 4 frozen loaves of bread are gone from my freezer!).
That’s a BEAUTIFUL kitchen! I LOVE IT! And I am so, so, so flattered that you love my kitchen too.
You’re so sweet.
You know what my fave part of yours is? Besides the KitchenAid? The fact that your stove and sink are pretty close. That seems convenient to me for some reason.
Have you tried protein powder mixed with yogurt? I just tried it and it was delicious. I used 1/2 scoop of chocolate with 1/2 cup plain yogurt, then added a splenda.
I agree with the others – 1/2 a scoop of protein powder, vanilla – you’ll be set (hopefully!)
I love your kitchen! And the Princess Series fridge
Erin – Thanks! I think my favorite part is all the cabinet space. We have a lot of kitchen items, but still have a couple empty cabinets. I haven’t tried the yogurt/protein mix. I’ll try it soon.
eatingbender – I guess that was the main problemo – too much and wrong flavor.
when i mix my vanilla pro powder in..it’s def. got that protein taste…but with some extra banana and cinnamon, it’s not bad. I don’t dislike the flavor…but you can taste the difference.
love the picture of your kitchen, and I keep forgetting to look for those arnold thin sandwich breads. they look awesome!!
have a great weekend !
