B-fast for Dinner

by eatingbirdfood on September 23, 2008

One of my favorite childhood memories is when my mom said that we could have breakfast for dinner. I felt like we were breaking the rules, which makes breakfast for dinner seem really cool when you are 10. I was like.” Mom, can we really do this? Do other people actually do this too? My mom would make eggs, bacon, biscuits with Chocolate Jam ( which is more like a hot chocolate syrup – a heavenly breakfast delight passed down from my great grandmother), and fried potatoes. I grew up with country cooking, as you can most likely tell from the aforementioned list.

My food choices have changed a bit, but breakfast for dinner is still delicious. I made and omelet with broccoli, onion, tomato, sting cheese sliced up, and green pepper. On the side I had sweet potato fries.

For dessert I decided to have more breakfast – actually the left overs from my brown rice porridge this morning.

Aw, I love the story! That chocolate jam sounds amazing! How exactly do you make it? Unless it’s a family secret ;)

Omelettes are so amazing at dinnertime. They are perfectly filling. And I love sweet potato fries – I had some of those today, too!!

i always buy sweet potatoes but ALWAYS forget to make fries with them. I just nuke it and spinkle with brown sugar and fake butter spray. Must. Remember. The. Fries.

Oh man! Breakfast for dinner is the best. I haven’t done that for years. Hash browns, toast, eggs, bacon … nothin’ quite like it, is there?

Eatingbender- I’ll post the chocolate jam recipe in the Recipe section soon!! I’ve got to find it or call my mom.

Charlie Hills- Nope, nothing like it!

Grounded- I would highly recommend it.

Erin – I grew up in a small town in Virginia. Okay, you can just take a quick flight over to the east coast for dinner!

Christie- Same, I would rather something sweet for breakfast rather than eggs…. most of the time.

You know, this would make a great bumper sticker:

“Charlie Hills- Nope, nothing like it!”
