Mid Night Snack with the Fly Trap

by eatingbirdfood on August 27, 2008

For lunch I decided to have carrots and peanut butter inspired by Em from Gliding Calm who has this combo often. I have to admit, it’s a great idea to combine the two and something I will probably add to my lunches.

I also had a salad with left over salmon and more tomato, because those are plentiful at my house right now. So much so, there are some going bad and attracting/creating small insects (Aren’t fruit flies created?) which is never a good thing. Isaac is brought home a Venus Fly Trap so maybe it will catch those pesky little fruit flies.

BTW, I am excited to have a Venus fly trap – I don’t think I have seen one since elementary school. And here is ours chomping on a cricket for a mid-night snack.

I also had some fruit, a kiwi and grapes with my lunch.

Overall this was a really filling lunch and has kept me full.. probably the PB and salmon. As a snack later in the afternoon I made a 1/4 cup batch of oats with half a banana and flax. I then had two small handfuls of antioxidant trail mix from TJ’s.

Dinner wasn’t too exciting or crazy….. just leftovers from last night so salmon, cous cous, and bok choy. It was still quite tasty and I’d have to say that I got my fair share of fish today.

I had some granola mix that my cousin gave me today after dinner – she got it from costco – I am not exactly sure what it consisted of, but it was tasty and I’m pretty sure there were some flax seeds in it. Isaac and I shared a bottle of champagne because his first day of teaching school starts tomorrow. AND then I was still hungry so I had a small cup of shredded wheat cereal with skim milk as a mid-night snack.. while the venus fly trap was eating it’s cricket.

So today I actually posted EVERYTHING  I ate, just no photos of after dinner snacks.. I seriously give props to those that can capture everything they eat for their posts!

That Venus fly trap is SO COOL! And I am a huge fan of that TJ’s antioxidant mix.

I give props to people who can capture everything, too. It’s so much work! You did a good job with everything today – it all looks delicious.

The Venus Fly Trap pic is very cool!

All of your food looks great. I don’t really like carrots but I am very tempted to try the carrot/nut butter combo!

If it’s the stuff that’s called “Granola Snack Mix” then these are the ingredients [I work at Costco!]

oats, honey, canola &/or peanut &/or sunflower oils, raisins, dried cranberries, almonds, walnuts, cashews, maple syrup, whole grain wheat flour, malted barley flour, pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds, sugar, contains 2% or less of: salt, dried yeast, xanthan gum, reduced iron, niacin, vitamin B-6, zinc oxide (source of zinc vitamin A Palmitate, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin folic acid, Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D

There are two different kinds made. One is called granola snack mix, and one is called granola w/ blueberries & cranberries or something like that. One has blueberries and one doesn’t. I love both of them. At my location, they only sell the blueberry one now.

It’s not on the package, but the bakery isn’t required to put nutrition labels on anything they make in-house… only ingredients are required. However, they have the nutritional information back there in the bakery, and you can ask the employees back there for the sheet. It’s a master copy, so they won’t let you keep it, but you can check it out while you’re back there.

The granola snack mix is not that bad, considering most of the fats comes from the nuts & there is very little granulated sugar added. Most of the sweetness is added by honey & maple syrup.

I think Peanutbutter is awesome with like 80% of all other foods. Carrots and peanbutter rocks! Try the quinoa…its honestly not that different from cous cous…at least I don’t think so! hope you have a good Wednesday!!

I cannot photo everything I eat either. Too stressful.

Your carrot looks like a weapon and your venus fly trap is so cool!

ugh- Fruit flies breed/lay eggs in ripening fruit and veggies. I don’t believe they appear out of thin air.
