Hot Days, Cold Showers

by eatingbirdfood on July 10, 2008

As if things weren’t bad enough, the hot water in our new apartment isn’t working so it’s been cold showers for 2 days… so I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

On the bright side, Isaac’s parents are amazing! His dad and I went running tonight, I totally look up to him and his running abilites. This is a man who started running later in life and is now in is 60′s and still runs. He has ran many many marathons, 50 mile marathons, and 2 hundred mile marathons. 100 miles… you read it right!! So we ran 4 miles tonight, which is probably absolutely nothing to him. We’re going running again tomorrow with a group of his running buddies who call themselves the “old and in the way” group, but yet all of them can run like 7 minute miles on the regular. So I’m going to be the one in the way… and when I say in the way, i mean in the way back.

And then there is Isaac’s mom.. who is just lovely and made me dinner tonight. I searched online for jobs while she cooked. She made the orange and basil tofu dish that I made earlier this week. It was fine because hers turned out a lot less spicy than mine so it had a totally different taste. We also had salad and cous cous. It was nice to take photos at her house so I could have some different bowls for a change.

Earlier today Isaac’s dad went picking blackberries. I read on Kath’s blog a few days ago that she tought the blackberry season was ending. I was thinking ohhh noo… I missed the blackberries from Isaac’s. Then I realized she lives in NC – and the Virginia blackberries are just getting started so I will have blackberries for a while longer…..here’s the massive bowl of blackberries!! I had them for dessert this evening.

And here’s a few in my special K cereal this morning- with almond milk. I had it for the first time today. I liked it a lot actually. I may need to buy myself some.

I’m off to go to bed so that I can wake up and go to work in the am. I have a small job tomorrow of going to a lady’s house to be there while a cleaning company cleans her carpet and cleans a couch that she is giving to me. She said she will pay me to be there though – I’m glad because I need to make money doing something. I am thinking I might try to do some free lancing or temp work until a job I really want comes available – that way I don’t feel pressured to take the first thing that comes along. We shall see. I will keep you all updated.

Karen-

I live in Richmond and my boyfriends parents have a garden and they have black berries growing beside the garden. There is also a church nearby their house that grows blackberries so we also got some from there. Where do you live in VA?

I bought some local blackberries last night and had them semi-mashed on top of the coconut milk vanilla ice cream- YUM! At least the showers can cool you off and get you prepared to stand the heatwaves… good luck with the job search! I hate how daunting and sometimes disappointing that can be.

orange pop- blackberries are very versatile. I have yet to put them on icecream. I’m waiting for my boyfriend’s mom to make a cobbler so I can pair that with vanilla icecream!!! HEAVEN!

Gliding – no more cold showers for me. got it fixed! It’s my goal to be that fit when I am older as well. When I retire I am totally going to be a mall walker :) haha maybe i should just stick with the gym

julz – I hope you find some sweet ones soon!

Marathons are 26.2 miles. Anything longer than that is called an ultramarathon, not, for example, a 50-mile marathon.

Jess- I realize that, I was just specifying the distance.
