Creature of Habit

I’ve eaten the same breakfast for 3 days straight and now for dinner I am eating something very similar to last nights dinner. Lucky for you all, It won’t be 3 days of veggie burgers because I ate the last one tonight. With Brittany’s Blend (made for me… ) of veggies from Trader Joe’s mixed with the left over peas from last night. Along with some veggies and hummus.

So funny thing about the gym today. I am not a competitive person at the gym, at least I don’t feel I am. I can walk at 4.5 on the treadmill with the person next me running at 10.0 and feel fine about myself. Maybe it would be better if I were more competitive because today it paid off. The lady next to me kept looking at the treadmill, so much so that it was really noticeable. I was walking, incline at 1, speed 4.5, and reading the new Health Magazine. She was doing running intervals, I don’t know if it is because she was getting tired and needed to walk between running or if she was doing a timing thing. But anyhow after 10 minutes of walking I thought I would run a bit. So I turned it up a notch and started running at 6.5. I didn’t even notice what speed she was at, until I saw that she kept looking at my machine. I looked over and noticed she was at 6.5. I few minutes later she was at 6.8. This bugged me, that she purposefully was trying to show me up, sooo I upped the anty quite a bit and started doing 7.6. She looked over and I strategically flipped a page in my magazine like I was simply reading leisurely on the beach. She quickly upped hers to 7.0. After about 2 minutes I started running at 8.0 for 1 minute intervals. She seriously looked at me with a grimace. After receiving that look, I felt really proud when she got off the treadmill soon after. Which was also good because I was quite tired of running between 7.5-8.0. I went back to 6.5 once I was sure she was out of sight. It was an interesting thing for me because I haven’t had a treadmill competition with anyone before. But man did it feel good today! So I guess the healthy competition is a good for me, otherwise I probably would have kept running at 6.5 with no speed increases. Thanks lady.

A little (unexpected) competition is always good. Your story made me giggle. I think of myself of the person that runners love to run to next to because they are in no danger of being slower than me, their neighbor.

Haha that’s an awesome story. It’s probably good I don’t go to a gym because I would be totally uncomfortable with people competing with my speed. It would drive me crazy. Although it would probably push me a lot to go outside of my comfort zone…

haha that’s a great story. I’m definitely guilty of looking at how fast other people are going. I hate running next to people on the treadmill though, it totally messes up my stride and I tend to get tripped up which is always embarrassing.

Haha! That’s a great treadmill story. And wow, you were going fast. A little healthy competition is a good thing now and again!
