RACE DAY!

by eatingbirdfood on April 5, 2008

I did the Ukrops 10k race today!! It’s one of the largest races in the US… over 30,000 people signed up before they cut off entrants. This is the longest race I have ran and I did a 10 week training program with the YMCA to get prepared. I had gone to all the weekend long runs at 7:30am every Saturday morning until last Saturday when I was toooo sick to go. But our peak run was 7 miles and that is the longest distance I had ever run in my life.. which felt amazing!! I was excited that it didn’t thunderstorm this morning as the weather had predicted. How odd that the weather predictions were not correct. I think I should be a meteorologists, the one job you can be wrong at day after day and not get fired. It did rain a bit, but I actually think that felt nice while running. Isaac and I ran together and finished at the exact same time.. how cute…. at 54 minutes!! So many people came out to cheer everyone on, there were over 10 bands playing along the course. One of the most fun races I have taken part in, however I have only done 3! Oh well this is just the beginning of my race journey because I have already signed up for a 1/2 marathon in November! I just need to find some running buddies in Richmond because I don’t like running in the city alone. So to what I ate today.. a bunch of snacking to say the least. For breakfast I had a piece of toast with pb and jelly, along with some trail mix with no nuts. Before the race I ate a banana.

toast: 80 cal
pb and j: 100
banana: 80
trail mix: 140

After the race of course there was a food stand and I grabbed an apple and a cinnamon raisin bagel. I didn’t like the bagel that much so I only ate a couple bites, but I did eat the apple. There was a stand giving away free samples of those Flat Earth chips. I have already tried them before but I wanted some and I actually go to try a flavor I haven’t had before. Tangy Tomato or something. They were good!! When we got home I ate pineapple, strawberries and angelfood cake with fat free whipped cream, and a few nuts from simply the best trail mix. At around 4:00 I made a small salad of baby mixed greens, carrots, tomatoes, and broccoli. And then ate some more of the no nuts trail mix. It’s pretty darn tasty. So thats all for now. I am meeting a friend out for dinner, but I don’t know where yet! Isaac and I are dog sitting this weekend for a woman with 2 yorkies. I have a yorkie (snickers) so I love them little things. One is only 12 weeks old so I am falling in love.

FYI-My dad is actually breeding ours so I hope to get a puppy soon!
